    Session Dates: 7 Wednesdays, July 15 - August 26

    Session Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Tuition Fees:  Chicago Dramatists is offering this course free-of-charge to up to 8 Black female playwrights.

  • Class Description

A playwright’s choice to write what’s on their mind can feel like choosing between re-living trauma personally, or fulfilling their responsibility as artists. And the workshop experience – so important to developing new work – can amplify this complexity. These dynamics can feel especially true right now, particularly for underrepresented populations.

This workshop is designed for Black female, Femme identifying, Non-binary, and Trans playwrights to explore strategies for writing, with a balance of both self-care and larger mission. Using plays from the Black female canon and elsewhere as inspiration, participants will be guided through discussions and generative exercises to develop new pages.

Chicago Dramatists is offering this course free-of-charge to up to 8 students. Students will be chosen by a simple application process (which you can fill out below).  This class is ideal for intermediate-to-advanced playwrights, poets and/or performers. Previous workshop and production experience is helpful, but not required.

Selected applicants will be notified by July 8, by the instructor.  Class will then begin on July 15.
