Founded in 2017, The Credit Kings University Scholarship Fund, is a non-profit charity that supports credit education, budgeting and entrepreneurship and other community building activities in the city of Brunswick. Our mission is to provide resources for charitable, credicivic and Entrepreneurship programs. These include scholarships, educational assistance and partnerships with other agencies to magnify community impact.
Purpose: To identify high school seniors and continuing college students who possess a strong desire for academic excellence, leadership positions in student organizations, and plan on attending an HBCU in the Fall of 2020 or Winter 2020 semester as a full-time student.
Reward: One or more individuals selected from the pool of qualified applicants will be awarded scholarships for financial assistance during the 2020-21 academic year up to $1000.00. Provided that the award recipient maintains academic excellence and enrollment in an HBCU, the student will be awarded an additional scholarship up to $500.00 during the 2021-2022 academic year. If the awardee drops out of school, does not maintain at least a 3.0 or does not enroll for the 2021-2022 academic year, the unused portion of the award is returned to TCKU and deposited to the Scholarship Fund. The awardee is responsible for sending TCKU a current transcript in order to receive the second year's scholarship.
Qualifications: Interested candidates must meet the following criteria to qualify for this award:
- Graduating high school senior or currently enrolled college student graduating in Fall 2020 or later with a GPA of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale;
- Have applied and been admitted to Historically Black College or University (HBCU) ;
- Complete a narrative of no more than 500 words, discussing one of the following:
(1) the advantage of receiving an education in your field of study at an HBCU;
(2) the importance of the your field of study being included in the primary and secondary education
(3) the role of digital technology in your field of study in the next five years;
(4) how you plan to give back to HBCUs and the community through your field of study upon graduation.
- Candidate or a representative of the candidate (preferably a family member local to Brunswick) must be available to receive the award in person at TCKU's Signature and Scholarship Event to be held on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 5:00 pm.
