Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security field has a strong course of violence, blood, and discussions that can be offensive in nature. During the course of the year there will be discussions of criminal cases, videos, and other documentaries that deal with police use of force, crimes, violence, drugs, etc. These cases and videos will be used when and if these topics are covered in the particular class your child is in. The materials are only used to enhance the student’s understanding of the topic we are covering.
The field of LPSCS deals with a lot of hands on activities. There will be sessions where the students and instructor practice handcuffing techniques, vehicle stops, building searches, standard field sobriety testing (DWI), scenarios, crime scene searches, etc. These activities shall be taken seriously and there will be zero tolerance for those who do not follow the rules. Students who do not follow the instructor’s rules or are a hazard to other students safety will not be allowed to participate and will be disciplined.
There will be outside speakers coming into the classroom discussing their personal stories as a professional in the LPSCS field. Some stories may be intense and graphic, but it is only to enhance and help students understand some of the dangerous aspects of a career in the LPSCS field.
