INTRODUCTION:
This jobsite slips, trips and falls Toolbox Topic aims to highlight and reinforce the core issues associated with the the procedures required to eliminate tripping hazards from the work area.
By the end of the talk attendees shall have a clear and concise knowledge of good house keeping practices to eliminate potential tripping hazards.
MAIN DISCUSSION:
Tripping hazards around the work area can be prevented if good house keeping standards are adhered too.
Tripping hazards can be caused by spilt substances left on the floor or objects left in walkways, aisle ways or workplaces and by people not paying attention to their workplace surrounding.
Maintain work areas by carrying out the following:
- Keep walkways, aisle ways, stairs and workplaces free from food scraps,materials and other hazards.
- If liquids are split on the floor they should be cleaned up immediately.
- Always barricade a spill before cleaning up and leave a sign when finished to indicate the floor is still wet.
- Report broken or damaged handrails, stair treads, floor tiles.
- When on site walk DON`T run.
- Always wear non-slip safety footwear in the kitchen.
- Clean floors regularly to eliminate any hazards.
- Ensure you can see where you are going when carrying large loads.
- Avoid standing in front of swinging doors and doorways.
- Keep sharp objects away from table edges, if someone does fall they may try to grab the table for support and further injure then self.
