    ASSESSMENT TOOL FOR CASE-BASED DISCUSSION (CbD)

  • Guidelines for the conduct of Case-Based Discussion (CbD):

    1. The resident selects several case records in which he/she had made entries regarding patients seen recently in the area of rotation.
    2. The evaluator selects one patient record and explores aspects of it with the resident.
    3. The assessment is designed to assess application of knowledge, decision making, and ethical issues as well as medical record keeping.
    4. Dimensions assessed include the resident'a clinical assessment of the patient, investigations and referrals, treatment, follow-up and future planning, professionalism, and overall clinical judgement.
    5. Each dimension is scored on a 10 point scale.
    6. Allow +/- 15 minutes for the discussion followed by immediate feedback.
