  • Welcome to the 2021 Placement Questionnaire. Please read the Registrar Information Sheet below prior to completing this questionnaire.

    The questionnaire must be submitted by midnight Wednesday, 18 November 2020.

    This 10-minute questionnaire provides JCU with important information regarding your training intentions, hospital experience and region preferences.

    Due to practice capacity limitations and workforce requirements, you may be required to relocate within the JCU GP region for all or part of your training.

    You will need to attach the following supporting documentation or submit it to jcugp.placements@jcu.edu.au by Wednesday, 18 November 2020 (*you have to attach these documents to your placement questionnaire):

    • Your CV*,
    • Current AHPRA registration*,
    • Evidence of the date you were first granted General Registration,
    • End of Term Assessments for your mandatory hospital terms,
    • Statement/s of Service for your hospital work (if available),
    • If you're using Emergency Medicine (EM) terms to meet the Paediatric Term Requirement, either a letter from the hospital ED confirming your own paediatric caseload as a percentage for each EM term or a de-identified patient log for each EM term,
    • RACGP Financial Membership (if available),
    • 2021 Hospital Employment Contract (if applicable).

    You can save the questionnaire part-way through completion, but once you have submitted your answers you can't change them.

  • Rural Generalist Training

    Undertaking GP training as a Rural Generalist (RG) can be very rewarding.  To enrol to train as a Rural Generalist, you will need to let us know of your decision before you start your GP training.  Please see https://www.health.gov.au/sites/default/files/documents/2020/03/agpt-program-rural-generalist-policy-2020-agpt-rural-generalist-policy-2020.pdf for more information.

  • The Fellowship of Advanced Rural General Practice (FARGP)

    Information on the Fellowship of Advanced Rural General Practice (FARGP) can be found at https://www.racgp.org.au/the-racgp/faculties/rural/education-and-training/fellowship-in-advanced-rural-general-practice

    You do not have to be enrolled as an RG to undertake the FARGP and you can enrol in any time before undertaking your Advanced Rural Skills Training (ARST) term.

    If you're interested in the FARGP, please let us know at your Pre-entry Meeting or talk to your Medical Educator once you have commenced your training in 2021.

  • Your Previous Hospital Experience

  • RACGP's Mandatory Hospital Term Requirements:

    Registrars wishing to commence their training on the program in a community General Practice placement must demonstrate that they have successfully completed a minimum of 10 weeks in the following disciplines in an accredited Australian or New Zealand public hospital, within the last 5 years:

    • General Medicine
    • General Surgery
    • Emergency Medicine
    • Paediatrics*
    • Three additional disciplines to demonstrate breadth of experience.

    The RACGP's Paediatric Term Requirement document outlines the approved alternatives if a Paediatric term has not been completed.

  • Basic Life Support

    Registrars wishing to commence their training in a community General Practice Placement, need to submit a BLS certificate, which will be valid on the day they commence GP training (on 18 January or if their hospital contract finishes on 31 January, then 1 February 2021).

    Please note: the BLS component of an ALS course is valid for only 12 months.

  • JCU's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health GP training program

    Two-thirds of Queensland’s approximately 100,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people live within the JCU GP training region, which means there are a variety of opportunities for registrars to develop an extended scope of practice in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.

    JCU is committed to distributing registrars equitably throughout our vast region ensuring workforce requirements are met in communities in need. As a consequence we are providing enhanced employment opportunities using an innovative funding package in following locations:

  • Academic Post Placements

    An academic post can be a great way to incorporate academic work into your career, or as preparation for further postgraduate study in academic general practice. Academic posts provide exposure to medical research and the academic environment, including teaching, project work and critical evaluation of research relevant to the discipline of general practice.

    Registrars undertaking an academic post will also have the opportunity to:

    • Contribute to the evidence on which general practice is based
    • Attend funded workshops and conferences
    • Disseminate their research in professional journals and at conferences
    • Help build a foundation towards becoming a general practice academic or medical educator.

    Please note: your preferences are taken into consideration during the placement process, however, we cannot guarantee that you will be allocated to your preferred regions.

    Applicants wishing to undertake training in a community General Practice placement in January 2021 should be aware that JCU’s Sunshine Coast region (which includes Gympie) and the Hervey Bay portion of the Wide Bay region are at capacity for 2021.

    The following JCU regions have excellent GP training opportunities and are projected to have training post capacity in 2021:
    • Central Queensland
    • Central West Queensland
    • Mackay
    • North West Queensland
    • Tablelands
    • Wide Bay – Bundaberg or Maryborough
    • Regional areas of the Townsville and Cairns regions

    JCU GP requires registrars to live in the region that they work in.
