RIDES OF MARCH

WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN A SPECIAL PERMIT FROM BLM TO USE THIS AREA. DURING THIS TIME OF YEAR THE ENTIRE AREA IS CLOSED TO ALL MOTOR VEHICLES. WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN AN EXCEPTION TO ALLOW FOR ACCESS TO THE CAMP AREA. IN CASE YOU MISSED THE BEST PART. THERE ARE NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES ALLOWED IN THE AREA OF THE RIDE: THAT MEANS NO MOTORCYCLES OR QUADS BUZZING AROUND. IT ALSO MEANS A LOT MORE WORK FOR US. WE WILL BE MARKING TRAIL STRICTLY ON FOOT AND HORSEBACK AND ALL WATER WILL BE IN

NATURAL LOCATIONS. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THROUGH THE GENEROSITY OF SEVERAL LOCAL RANCHERS, WE WILL HAVE LOTS OF WATER AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT THE RIDE. IT IS THE CONSIDERATION OF ANOTHER LOCAL LAND OWNER THAT WE WERE ABLE TO GET YOU IN TO SOME REALLY GREAT AREAS. THIS IS A GREAT TIME OF YEAR TO SEE THE DEER, ANTELOPE AND WILD HORSE HERDS. DEPENDING ON HOW THE WINTER GOES THERE CAN BE LOTS OF GRASS COMING IN

CAMP: THE CAMP IS BARE BONES. THERE IS HORSE WATER AVAILABLE, BUT FOR THE MOST

PART YOU NEED TO PLAN ON BRINGING WHAT YOU NEED. THERE WILL BE NO CAMP FIRES ALLOWED. PARKING IS VERY LIMITED SO IF YOU CAN TRAILER-POOL THEN PLEASE DO SO AND PLAN ON PARKING CONSERVATIVELY. AS ALWAYS WE WILL PROVIDE THE SAME WONDERFUL LUNCH TO ALL RIDERS AND VOLUNTEERS.

DIRECTIONS: RIDE CAMP IS LOCATED OFF RED ROCK ROAD, JUST A LITTLE NORTH OF RENO. TAKE THE RED ROCK EXIT OFF US HWY 395 AND HEAD EAST 15 MILES. THERE WILL BE RIBBONS

AND SIGNS TELLING YOU WHERE TO TURN RIGHT ONTO A DIRT ROAD. FOLLOW THE DIRT ROAD

THE RIDES: THERE WILL BE A 50 MILE AND 30 MILE RIDE. ALL HOLDS WILL BE IN CAMP SO THERE IS NO NEED FOR A CREW. AS THERE ARE NO VEHICLES ALLOWED IN THE RIDE AREA, CREWS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MEET RIDERS OUT ON THE TRAIL UNLESS THEY WANT TO WALK. THE 50 MILE RIDE CONSISTS OF A 20 MILE LOOP AND TWO 15 MILE LOOPS. THE 30 MILE RIDE CONSISTS OF TWO 15 MILE LOOPS. THE TRAIL IS ALMOST ENTIRELY SANDY JEEP ROADS AND SANDY SINGLE TRACK, THERE ARE HARDLY ANY ROCKS.

RULES: ALL AERC RULES APPLY. THIS IS A FAMILY FRIENDLY AND INCLUSIVE EVENT OPEN TO ALL. ALL ARE WELCOME. UNKIND, DISRESPECTFUL, RUDE OR MEAN BEHAVIOR DIRECTED TO ANY PERSON INVOLVED IN THE RIDE WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AND WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE

COVID: AT THIS TIME THE ATTACHED COVID PLAN WILL APPLY. IF THERE ARE ANY CHANGES TO OUR LOCAL RESPONSE RIDERS WILL BE NOTIFIED.

SANCTIONING: BOTH RIDES ARE SANCTIONED BY AERC

VETS: HEAD VET IS SUSAN MCCARTNEY, DVM

START TIMES: 0700 FOR THE 50 MILE AND 0800 FOR THE 30 MILE

AWARDS: COMPLETION AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN TO ALL FINISHERS OF BOTH RIDES. FIRST PLACE AND BEST CONDITION, TOP 10 AND FIRST THREE IN EACH WEIGHT DIVISION WILL BE AWARDED FOR THE 50. FIRST TO FINISH AND BEST CONDITION WILL BE AWARDED FOR THE 30 MILE.

This is an inclusive, family friendly event.  All are welcome.  Rude, unkind, mean behavoir will not be tolerated.  Demonstration of inappropriate behavior toward any participant will be grounds for immediate disqualification from this event and denied entry to future events.

By entering this event you agree to be kind, courteous and compassionate to all attendees at all times.

By entering this event I agree to abide by all COVID precautions set out by AERC and Ride Management.  These include, but are not limited to, wearing face covering (mouth and nose) when distancing of 6 feet or more cannot be achieved, liberal use of handwashing and sanitizer, maintain social distance of 6 feet when in the company of other people.  Additional guidelines will be provided to participants prior to the event.

As a participant in the Rides of March, I agree to abide by the rules of AERC and the aforementioned ride.  I understand that endurance riding involves being in remote areas for extended periods of time, far from communication, transportation, and medical facilities; that these areas have many natural and man-made hazard which ride management cannot anticipate, identify, modify, or eliminate; that horses can be excitable, difficult to control, and unpredictable; and that accidents can happen to anyone at any time.  I agree to take full responsibility for myself and the animal I am riding.  I will hold AERC, ride management, all ride personnel and all property owners over whose land the ride passes blameless for any accident, injury or loss that might occur due to my participation in the ride and free from all liability and for such injury or loss.
