Level of Fault Definitions:
- MINOR FAULT: This will not affect the safe use of the vehicle or the safety of other road users. These faults may be repaired easily at the time of detection or when appropriate spares or parts can be accessed. The repair should be, quickly and easily repaired, normally by the driver. These fault repairs may be deferred and monitored.
- MAJOR FAULT: These faults will require more specialist attention than a driver could normally apply on the roadside, they may require parts which are not normally carried on the vehicle. Repair may be deferred to allow the vehicle to be taken to a place of repair, providing safety of the vehicle, driver or other road uses is not adversely impacted.
- SERIOUS FAULT: These faults will impact on the safetyof the vehicle, driver or other road users. As a result these faults will require immediate attention and may require the vehicle be towed. A vehicle (or trailer) must mot be operated with serious faults present.
