100 BLACK MEN SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
DEADLINE: April 15, 2021 at 11:59 PM CST
Requirements
- 12th grade students of the MOBILE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM and Saturday Academy mentees
- Provide a copy of your unofficial transcript through 1st semester of the current school year (upload in PDF format at the appropriate point in the application)
- Must include an acceptance letter from a 2 year or 4 year college that is SACS or similar agency accredited
- Your high school counselor or core teacher and a community leader or employer must provide a submission of recommendation
- Maintain an acceptable GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted) to be verified by the school counselor in the letter of recommendation
- ACT score or SAT score - 19 ACT or 1300 SAT or 23 ACT for Tyus-Wilson scholarship to be verified by the school counselor in the letter of recommendation *2-year colleges do not require ACT/SAT scores
- Submit a paragraph, answering the following: "Who has been the most influential mentor in my life? And why? Also include, I am in need of funding for college because..."
Finalists
- Finalists will be interviewed by committee of the 100 Black Men of Greater Mobile, Inc., in a face-to-face socially distant setting to determine recipients. Business attire required
Recipients
- Must attend the Gala or Scholarship Reveal with 1 parent maintaining 2 - 6" feet distancing
- Must dress appropriately - bussiness attire for the Gala
- Must enter college during the summer or fall/spring semester
- Must submit official copy of grades at the end of each semester to the 100 Black Men of Greater Mobile, Inc. to verify payment to be submitted for the next semester (paid each semester until funds are expended)
- Must complete 24 academic hours at the end of the freshman year (before fall semester)
- Must participate in 2 approved organizations on campus
Scholarship Disbursements
- Two 4 yr scholarships will be awarded to students committed to attending the University of South Alabama
- One 4 yr scholarship will be awarded to a student committed to attend Alabama State University
- One 4 yr scholarship will be awarded to a student committed to attend Alabama A&M University
- One incoming Freshman student committed to Bishop State Community College for a 2 year team
