Course Invitation
The Church Health Center cordially invites Medical, Dental and Nursing students from University of TN Health Sciences Center and Baptist College of Health Sciences to apply to be part of our 6 week Serving the Underserved series.
This Spring session will continue to provide inspiring and grounding speakers who will discuss topics on
faith, service, leadership, cultural humility, race, disparities and more.

As our course moves to a new location, we are limited to a total of 60 students
(45 medical students max. Once this limit has been met, any additional medical students will be placed on a waiting list).

This will ensure comfort, discussion and a depth of experience for all students involved.

Course Facilitators
Dr. Nia Zalamea is a general surgeon at the Church Health Center. She is currently a Volunteer Assistant Professor at UT Health Science Center in the Department of Surgery. Dr. Zalamea received her postgraduate General Surgery training at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA and Doctorate of Medicine at East Tennessee State University. Prior to joining the Church Health Center, Dr. Zalamea spent five years of private practice in Abingdon, VA, a primarily rural community of 7,000. She has been involved in annual overseas mission work in the Philippines with Memphis Mission of Mercy since 1998 and in Haiti and Honduras with Light of the World Charities since 2011.
Rev. Jonathan C. Lewis, BCC is a United Methodist Deacon and Board Certified Chaplain. He has worked in hospital chaplaincy with Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare since 2008. He is also a United Methodist Campus Minister at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, where he has served since 2011. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion from The University of Georgia in 2005 and a Masters of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School in 2008.

The course is held from 6:00-8:00 PM
Location: Methodist University Center of Excellence in Faith and Health
Dates: March 21-April 25th, 2016.
The course is free and dinner is provided for all participants.
