The Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) program is a 50-week professional internship experience managed in partnership between the National Park Service, the Stewards Individual Placement Program of Conservation Legacy, and Northwest Youth Corps. The program is designed to provide capacity building services to parks. CVA members support volunteer programs through expanding volunteerism, service-learning, community engagement efforts, and increasing the sustainability of established programs.
This internship supports the Volunteers-In-Parks program, which is an administrative vehicle through which the NPS can accept and utilize voluntary help and services from the public. Furthermore, the program is designed to serve the Department of the Interior's priorities to “be a better neighbor with those closest to our resources by improving dialogue and relationships with persons and entities bordering our lands” and “supporting DOI Infrastructure needs.”
The CVA program is also designed to inspire young adults and veterans (18-30 years old) who are service-focused, from diverse backgrounds, and aspire to future careers in conservation stewardship. The program will expose interns to the many different career paths that NPS has to offer.
NPS will provide the necessary training, guidance, career development, and education so that program participants can be effective and supported in their role. This includes providing the intern with coaching/mentoring (supervision), site orientation, job training, continuous learning/career development opportunities; as well as, assistance with housing (if applicable), local transportation, and required reporting.
For FY 2019, interns will start in late January 2019.
