• AG Bell STEM-HEAR

AG Bell gratefully acknowledges the support of the Hearst Foundations to provide stipends to ten college students who are deaf and hard of hearing and use Listening and Spoken Language to participate in summer research internships in auditory sciences laboratories at affiliated universities. Students must have completed their sophomore or junior year of college by June 2019, have at least a 3.0 GPA, and be majoring in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics).

AG Bell’s STEM-HEAR program focuses on supporting outstanding students in STEM studies who have the capacity to participate alongside students with typical hearing in research laboratories in auditory sciences. Our goal is to encourage students with hearing loss to persevere in their STEM-based studies, leading to careers in STEM fields and academia. The STEM-HEAR program ensures that each student has a mentor who uses Listening and Spoken Language or is trained in working with students with hearing loss who will support and guide the student throughout the internship experience.

Students may inquire at their own university for available placement or be invited to participate in an internship registered with AG Bell. Stipends assist students with room and board, travel and/or incidentals. Students commit to complete two surveys following their internship and participate in a student-mentor exchange with other STEM-HEAR participants to encourage each other to persevere in STEM studies.
