Hello and welcome to the 2019 Rail City Blazers AAU Sign Up Page!
If your daughter is interested in try-outs for the Rail City Blazers please let us know by filling out this form. If you would like to learn more about the program, please review the Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.) listed below, or contact Shawn Earl at 802-233-5080 or email@example.com.
Q: What is AAU?A: The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is a non-profit, volunteer sports organization in the United States. This is competitive basketball composed of a select team of girls chosen to represent St. Albans Rail City Blazers. We pride ourselves in a long rich history of competitive basketball, where player development is our primary goal.
Q: When does the Season Start?A: The Rail City Blazers season usually runs from late February to the end of April maybe mid-May. Practices usually occur weeknights and weekends at gyms within the St. Albans area. Game days are usually 2 day tournaments held on Saturday (2 games) and Sunday (2 games).
Q: Is there traveling involved?A: Yes. Most of our tournaments are within Vermont. There may be the occasional tournaments in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, or New York which would require an overnight stay. Number of tournaments varies per team but you should plan on at least 2 or 4 tournaments, which is 8-16 games.
Q: How does AAU competition rank with other local basketball programs?A: AAU basketball is considered the premier level of basketball for amateur players. This is a very competitive level of basketball. If your daughter is someone that loves basketball and is serious about becoming a better player, then AAU competition is what she needs to improve.
Q: Does this interfere with spring sports like softball, lacrosse or spring soccer?A: The AAU season is not an every day every week commitment. All games are played on the weekends and these do not take up every weekend. Coaches try to accommodate all schedules to the best of their abilities. We also try to have our season end prior to most spring sports starting to avoid conflict as best as possible.
Q: How much does it cost?A: You can estimate cost to be between $275-$375. The cost per player covers AAU membership fee, tournament fees, and cost of uniform. Coaches are volunteers and are not paid. Once coaches have selected tournaments and teams have been made we will have a better idea of actual cost.
Q: At what grade levels will you have teams? A: This varies year to year. This season we plan on having a team starting at grade 4/5 up through Grade 8.
