VDR
VIQ reference: Q. 4.1, 4.11
Confirm the following :
Is the VDR/ SVDR installed on board? Is it float free EPIRB type?
Is the Procedure for saving data posted next to the VDR/SVDR?
Are navigational officers aware of the procedures?
Are officers aware of the Company's VDR policy (usually in Nav manual)? Does the vessel have cable/software/hardware to download the data? VDR back-up PC recording function and recording intervals as per Company procedures?
Would VDR/SVDR be out of further operation if data is saved after an incident (Flag state dispensation required)?
*Poster near VDR – “ On Abandon ship – VDR data to be taken along if time permits”
D/off's must know that the min requirement for a VDR to keep recorded data is 12 hours. Hence for many manufacturers, if the data is not saved within 12 hours, it will be deleted.
Expiry date of VDR Battery (Main and beacon) checked and within date?
Is the VDR connected to Radars? Is there an alarm if the radars are turned off?
Check the VDR ALARM Panel. Confirm that there are no active alarms.
