We are thrilled you are interested in an extended retreat with us!
To make the application process go smoothly and quickly, we recommend that you gather the necessary information to fill out the application prior to sitting down and filling it out.
You will need to provide things like: a digital photo of yourself (headshot), a list of your retreat experience (teachers, # of nights for each, style of retreat [metta, concentration, where applicable], location & year), emergency contact information, and therapist name & contact, if applicable. Applications with incomplete or insufficient retreat information will be rejected.
This application may take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete depending upon your situation and your preparation.
Important Things to Know:
Prerequisite for Extended Retreats:
BEFORE applying for the February or March 1-Month retreat, you must have completed at least 15 nights of silent residential retreat time. This retreat time must include a minimum of two (2) silent retreats of five (5) nights or longer.
BEFORE applying for the Feb/Mar 2-Month retreat, you must have completed at least 21 nights of silent residential retreat time. This retreat time must include a minimum of three (3) silent retreats of five (5) nights or longer.
All of these retreats must have been led by Spirit Rock, IMS, or IRC teachers, or other recognized Insight Meditation teachers. For your retreats to qualify, these previous retreats must be silent retreats and have a similar format to this retreat, with instructions, practices, and talks focused on Insight Meditation.
To help us provide the most appropriate accommodation for you, please answer the following questions. We will do our best to honor your request within the constraints of our center. We cannot guarantee everyone will receive what they have requested.
Spirit Rock has single and double occupancy room accommodations; all have locking doors. There are a limited number of single rooms and an overwhelming number of requests for them. Double room accommodations have two single, twin beds, separated by a privacy screen, and are spacious rooms with separate storage and hanging areas for each occupant.
Many lifelong friends have been made from these room shares! Priority will be given to those who are truly willing and able to accept a shared room accommodation. PLEASE be true to what you need as we cannot switch you later.
If you require a single room to attend the retreat, please indicate that now. If you indicate you are willing to share a room, and you are offered and accept a double occupancy room, but then later decide you cannot accept this accommodation and need a single room, you will be taken out of the retreat (forfeiting your space in the retreat). You will be placed on the bottom of the single room waiting list.
We welcome and invite any person with a physical limitation to contact us directly about possible accommodations for attending an extended retreat with us: firstname.lastname@example.org.
As part of Spirit Rock's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion we are committed to creating a community on retreat that reflects the diverse identities of our society. We believe that we all benefit and are enriched from diverse views and experiences. The following questions will help us to support the diversity and inclusivity of our retreats.
We have an intention to increase the participation of People of Color (POC) in our retreats and programs. To help bring this to fruition, we hold a portion of all retreat center spaces for POC. So that we may further support your participation in this extended retreat, please make us aware if you self-identify as a POC.
As Spirit Rock's population of practitioners age, we have an intention to increase the participation of young adults 18 - 32 years of age in our retreats. To assist in this effort, we are holding a limited number of spaces for young adults.
We also have an intention to further the representation of LGBTQI communities at our retreat center.
A sliding scale fee allows individuals to pay what works best for their financial situation. Please pay at the highest level that you can afford so others who need to pay less can do so. Any amount offered above the base level of the sliding scale ("Base Rate-Sliding Scale 4") is considered a donation and is tax-deductible. The Supporter Rate as well as any payment over the base level sliding scale helps fund all that we do here at Spirit Rock, including our scholarship program.
The rate in parentheses is the amount you would pay for the entire retreat. Payment plan options can be discussed later, if you are accepted into the retreat.
For planning purposes and to be sure we allocate enough scholarship funds, select ONE sliding scale fee choice below. Your selection will not influence your chances of getting in. We will not be collecting fees during this lottery process, however, it is helpful for us to have a general idea of your payment intention.
Cancellation Policy: Should you need to cancel for any reason, a non-refundable fee will apply. This fee gets higher closer to the start of the retreat. Please let us know as soon as possible in order to allow the opportunity for someone else to attend. Fees and payments cannot be transferred to another person or another retreat.
Changes: Changes such as moving from one retreat to another are not as simple as they may seem. Any change needs to be approved by the teachers and is possible only if space is available. If a bed is available, you may be charged a change fee. If a bed is not available and there is a waiting list, we will put you on the top of the waiting list. Cancellation fees will apply if you decide to cancel.
Each scholarship request is assessed in terms of financial need and funds availability. If the lowest scholarship rate is cost prohibitive for you, please contact us: email@example.com
To apply for a scholarship, fill out the Scholarship Application below. Scholarship funds are limited. Be as candid as you can about your financial situation so we can better understand all scholarship requests.
The Spirit Rock community is happy to welcome you to our retreat center. Retreats offer a sacred space, protected and removed from the world, intended to allow participants to quiet the mind and open the heart. Some of the most beneficial and rewarding experiences of spiritual life come from attending a silent meditation retreat. The safety and container of a retreat help participants to learn embodied patience, steadiness, loving-kindness, generosity, and wisdom. Out of this grows the insight, compassion, and freedom that are natural to the heart.
Spirit Rock’s beautiful retreat center is designed to provide comfortable and suitable conditions. It is also a monastery – so when attending a retreat we ask that you arrive on time with a spirit of renunciation and simplicity and stay for the full retreat. To foster this spirit of simplicity and letting go, we ask retreatants to undertake the following traditional practices, which are called by our Elders "Taking What is Offered":
By typing my name in the field provided below:
Important Note: Practice meetings with teachers during retreats are purely for the purpose of supporting more skillfully the participant's meditation practice during the retreat and are not — nor should they be construed as — a form of psychotherapy or counseling.
Please answer the following questions about your meditation, medical and psychological history. Your answers will be kept confidential.
We apologize to have to repeat a few demographic questions.
Intensive retreat can be physically and psychologically challenging. To support retreatants in those rare cases when difficulties do arise, having information regarding the following questions will help teachers respond to the situation more effectively. We encourage your candor in answering these questions.
