If you got your Testosterone Cream from Fagron, it will be in a pump bottle. It is important to start it slowly to avoid side-effects. Remember, your body has not been used to testosterone and it will take a while to learn how to metabolise it again.
Start with about ¼ of a pump. Rub it into the muscular area of your upper legs – front and back. You can also rub it into your clitoris. This will increase the size of your clitoris and make it more sensitive. Stop doing it if you feel that it is becoming too big or sensitive. You might also find that you get extra hair on your upper legs in the area where you rub it in. In that case you can use other muscular areas as well.
Go up by about ¼ of a pump every week, if you don’t have side-effects. Use a maximum of one pump unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
The most common side-effect is pimples. If you get pimples, stop the cream for about one week and then restart at half the dose you were at. Just give your body time to get used to it.
Other side effects include loss of hair, extra hair growth, deepening of the voice, enlargement of the clitoris and possible effects on your cholesterol. We have treated thousands of women with testosterone in this practice and have never seen side-effects apart from pimples and extra hair in some patients who have used too much of it. About one in ten of our patients super absorb the testosterone and get levels that are higher than normal for females. We do not want to give you high levels, just normal female levels. It is extremely important that you have a blood tests done four to six weeks after starting the testosterone cream and then again 6 months later and then annually.
Remember: we use testosterone cream to change female’s bodies into male’s bodies! We use ten to twenty times the dosages you will have been prescribed, but it is important to stop the testosterone and speak to your doctor if you experience any undesired effects from the testosterone.
It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT not to fall pregnant if you are taking testosterone cream. Your doctor would not have prescribed it unless you are menopausal or taking a reliable form of contraception. If you stop your contraception, please stop the testosterone cream and speak to your doctor. If you do fall pregnant accidently on it, please stop the testosterone cream immediately.
PLEASE NOTE: Transdermal Testosterone, even at normal physiological levels, are seen as a banned substance by Athletics South Africa (ASA). If you participate in any ASA events (or any other sporting event) and you are randomly tested, you can be sanctioned and medals/prize money may be revoked.
You might need the testosterone only for a short while to get your libido back on track again or you might need it lifelong. It is difficult to tell in the beginning. Transdermal testosterone does not cure the problem (low levels of testosterone), it only solves the problem for as long as you use it. It is however possible to solve your sexual problems and then not to need the testosterone any longer (many women have normal sexual functioning despite low testosterone levels).
It is important to know that testosterone is not registered for use in women in South Africa. There are other countries in the world where it is. You are therefore consenting to the off-label use of testosterone by submitting this electronic document. The reason why it is not registered, is not because it is dangerous. There are multiple big studies to show that it is safe and effective for the use in females. It is a natural (bio-identical) product and there is no pharmaceutical company with a patent on it and therefore there is nobody who is applying for registration through the Medicine Control Council of South Africa.
