Rooms are from left to right when at the top of the stairs. If all the rooms are to one side of the stairs, consider the furthest bedroom away as "bed 1". Ensuite's are treated the same. 

For 3 storey houses, begin this rule at the top floor. When descending to the middle floor, the next bedroom in order will be the one closest to the stairs.
