  • The SoCal WESTOP Chapter recognizes the determination and commitment required by an educational equity program staff member to purse a post-graduate degree. As part of our membership’s commitment to collegiate support in fostering continued growth, the SoCal WESTOP chapter is making the financial commitment to assist new or continuing TRIO staff member(s) with scholarship award(s) to support their studies. The SoCal WESTOP Staff Development Scholarship will support the expected success of our TRIO staff member in his/her respective graduate program.

    Award

    Scholarship(s) of $1,000 will be awarded to a new or currently enrolled graduate student and member of WESTOP from the SoCal Chapter. The scholarship disbursement will be made upon submission of proof of enrollment.  Proof of enrollment must be an enrollment or class schedule endorsed by the registrar of the institution for the Fall term of 2016.

     

    Eligibility

    • Must be current and paid member of WESTOP.
    • Must be active in the SoCal Chapter of WESTOP.
      • Participate in at least 3 Socal events: PDS, SLC, TRiO Day, and Chapter Meetings.
    • Participant must be planning to attend or currently attending graduate school full-time (Fall 2016).
    • Only applications that meet the deadline will be considered. Hard copies (mail) or PDF files (email) will be accepted.

     

    Application Procedures

    • Fill out the application form.
    • Compose a thoughtful Personal Statement (2 pages typed, double spaced) that will help committee members learn about your personal history, goals, interests, and obstacles you have overcome to become a graduate student. Let us know why you are seeking a graduate degree and how you plan to use it to help TRiO students. Please give information that demonstrates that you are the best candidate for this scholarship.
    • Submit transcripts of all college coursework completed up to this point. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
    • Two letters of recommendation: One letter must be from a current SoCal WESTOP member.  Recommendations should address the applicant’s potential to succeed in graduate school, unique personal characteristics, growth, active participation in leadership, and service to TRiO programs.
  • Scholarship Timeline (dates subject to change)

    Scholarship deadline: February 16, 2016

    Committee reviews: February 19, 2016

    Recipient(s) notified: February 22, 2016

    Scholarship Disbursement: September upon submission of proof of Fall 2016 enrollment
