Outcomes are more detailed statements derived from objectives. Outcomes are what you will assess. These are specifically about what you want the end result of your efforts to be. An outcome includes three components.
Components of an outcome
-Audience (A) person doing or expressing
-Behavior (B) what person will do or report
-Condition (C) for Success
Cognitive (comprehension level) -" (the student) (will be able to accurately identify the effective leadership examples and explain why each example or isn't effective) (in 20 words or less). "
There are two types of outcomes:
Learning outcomes are changes in students’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and habits of mind that result from the experience. It is not what you are going to do to the student, but rather it describes what you want the student to do.
Program outcomes are the changes based on the program impact
Examples:
- (Students) (will be able to recall) at least (5 of the 7 elements of the Social Change Model).
- (Students) (will explain how the Social Change Model. influenced their work at the XXX program).
- (Students) (will demonstrate increased leadership skills) by (successfully completing a leadership skills inventory).
- (The XXX program) will (increase awareness of its XX programs/services) (by 20%).
- (The XXX program) will (increase the diversity of its volunteers) (to reflect the diversity of the PSU).
- (The XXX program) will (increase its number of volunteers) (by 10%).
Note: Limit yourself to no more than 6 outcomes. Try to focus on the most important objectives of your program. Remember in the end, you have to measure all of them!
