  • Daniel Goleman developed a leadership styles assessment. There are six main styles:

    • Democratic--seeks input from others; a listener
    • Coaching--encouraging; focuses on developing others
    • Affiliative--encouraging inclusion; resolves conflict
    • Pace-setter--meets goals; holds others to high standards
    • Authoritative--visionary; moving others toward common goal
    • Coercive--Gives orders; controlling

Each style has its own merits and obstacles, regarding context. As a student leader, these styles are demonstrated in various situations. Your peer was asked to reflect on the way they use these styles.

Your peer was also asked to look up their academic program's learning outcomes to reflect on the intersection of their coursework and their leadership styles.
