Daniel Goleman developed a leadership styles assessment. There are six main styles:
- Democratic--seeks input from others; a listener
- Coaching--encouraging; focuses on developing others
- Affiliative--encouraging inclusion; resolves conflict
- Pace-setter--meets goals; holds others to high standards
- Authoritative--visionary; moving others toward common goal
- Coercive--Gives orders; controlling
Each style has its own merits and obstacles, regarding context. As a student leader, these styles are demonstrated in various situations. Your peer was asked to reflect on the way they use these styles.
