    SOUL: Stories of Underground Legends Exhibit curated by T. Walker

    February 3 - April 4, 2021

  • SOULiloquies will be an immersive exhibition where visual artists present the stories of people who are everyday legends around us, in our communities, and perhaps beyond. Visitors to our gallery space and online exhibit will be able to see the images, then "tap in" to each visual image via a QR code that will bring them to a poem, speech, track, or story related to each local legend. 

  • Image of Underground Legend

    Artists of Greensboro and surrounding communities are invited to present their images of ancestors, underground legends, histories, community leaders, family members, etc., who aren’t necessarily “famous” or well known but who have contributed greatly to their community in some way. (We can include well-known people, but the artwork should feature a specific impact this individual has made in your community or life.) This image can be a photograph, artwork, sculpture, or whatever form you prefer.

  • Story of the Underground Legend

    In addition to your visual art piece, we also ask that you include a document related to the person/image. It can be a poem, written or spoken, music or speeches by local poets, artists, speakers, teachers, etc. If you have not recorded anything yet, please upload a file that explains how you plan to tell the individual's story. If your visual art work is selected for this exhibit, the written or recorded documentation to accompany it MUST BE COMPLETE by January 24.

  • The exhibition will take place in the CVA Gallery as well as on the CVA wesbite. 

    Submissions should include:

    -a high quality image of your Underground Legend in the form you choose to represent them

    -the document you want attached to your Underground Legend. (if you have questions about format, files, etc. Email Devon at devon.mcknight@greensboroart.org)


    Submissions will stay open until January 17, invitations to be part of the show will be issued by January 20, and artwork will need to be delivered to the CVA Gallery by January 24.
