Acceptance onto the Cambridge CELTA course is not guaranteed. Applicants must satisfactorily complete 'Language Awareness and Teaching' tasks and a free writing task in this application form and pass a subsequent online, telephone or face-to-face interview to be accepted. Candidates must be able to demonstrate that their level of English, both spoken and written, is suitable for the demands of the course (C1+/C2 or IELTS 7.5+ equivalent). Your level of English will be tested during the interview. The decision of the centre is final.

100% attendance is expected. Owing to the practical and experiential nature of the course there is little chance of making up days missed. Any exceptions to this are made by the Main Course Tutor on a case-by-case basis.

Please note that acceptance on a course does not mean a place has been reserved for you. To ensure a place on a particular course, you are required to pay the course fees in full in order to reserve a place on your desired course.

No refunds will be given should you withdraw from the course once it has started for any reason. Refunds before the course begins will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Task 1: Focus on Parts of Speech

Read the following sentences and categorise the words into their correct parts of speech:

Task 2: Focus on Tenses

A) In each of the following sentences identiy the verb(s) and the tense(s)

Example: My mother is cooking a delicious meal at the moment.

B) Now choose one of the tenses above and analyse the form of the tense.

B) Vocabulary

Students easily confuse the following pairs of words. In order to clarify the meaning of the words, give an example sentence for each word and in your own words, explain the difference in meaning between them (do not give a dictionary definition).

Task 4: Find the Errors, Correct and Explain

Read the following sentences and:
a) find the errors (grammar or vocabulary errors) and correct each sentence
b) explain the nature of the error

Example:
How much apples did you eat?
a) How many apples did you eat?
b) ‘much’ is used with uncountable nouns such as oil, milk, and salt; whereas, ‘many’ is used with countable nouns such as tables, apples and cats.

Task 5: Register and Appropriacy

The following is a conversation between a brother and sister who work in the same office. Rewrite the following conversation using formal language and as if these two people were colleagues.

Sarah: Hey Ahmad.

Ahmad: Yep?

Sarah: Hurry up and come and help me. Call the director and tell him we need to reschedule our meeting, will you? Our meeting is supposed to start in 30 mins but something urgent came up. 

Ahmad: Alright, will do.

Sarah: Thanks.

Ahmad: No problem.
