  • Page 2 - Brief Summary

  • Please provide a brief summary of your business or organisation that can be used in  promoting your business.  This section is not part of the judging but could be used as the 'voice-over' text for a video (if chosen as a finalist) or used in media supplements. 

  • Page 3 - Organisational Excellence

  • And now for the really important stuff.  What attributes does your business or organisation have that makes you stand out? Explain why these attributes exist. Use examples where appropriate. The focus for this section is showing your business strengths. If you are a not-for-profit organisation, it is still expected that you will run your organisation to an excellent business standard. Hover over the text box on each section for more guidance.

  • Page 4 - Section B: Recognition Categories

    If you are only entering Section A you do not need to fill in further sections - but feel free to provide any examples of workplace well-being or sustainability initiatives that may contribute to your business success.
  • Category Definitions

    Sustainability: Describe how your business or organisation has introduced products, services, strategies, or initiatives that are helping to reduce the organisation's impacts on the environment and improve its long term sustainability.  This could be new business-as-usual practices or activities that support the wider community or initiatives that reduce or offset the organisation's carbon footprint.

     

    Workplace Wellbeing: Describe how your business has introduced strategies or initiatives that promote and embed a culture of wellness in their organisation.

  • If you have entered either or both of the recognition Categories this is your chance to tell the Judges why you should be considered for the Award.

     In completing this section, particular attention should be directed to:

    - What is your organisation's point of difference that makes you amazing?

    - How do you shine above others in your chosen category?

  • Page 5 - Section C: Special Award

    Not required if only entering Section A - but feel free to provide any examples of why you should be considered for either of these awards. The Rising Star Award needs very little explanation, you must have been operating or been under new ownership for less that 5 years as at 1 July 2021.
  • Category Definitions

    Covid Hero: This Award will be presented to a business that has been inspiring in their efforts to better serve their regional business community since the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in New Zealand.

    Businesses will be nominated for this Award based on their flexibility, innovation and nimbleness in adapting to the environment to keep afloat while also helping other businesses to survive.

    Nominees will showcase how they played a part in the survival, and potential growth, of both their own and other businesses since the COVID-19 lockdown through some or all of their innovation, product development, diversification, market knowledge, effective leadership and community commitment.

    Rising Star:  This award aims to recognise a newcomer to our region’s business community that is making waves and promising to be in the market for the long term. Entrants may come from any sector and be of any size but must demonstrate innovation, dedication, professionalism, and drive. Open to all businesses that have been operational for less than 5 years and have been successful in identifying a market gap to launch a new business.

  • If you have entered either or both of the Special Awards this is your chance to tell the Judges why you should be considered for the Award.

  • Page 6 - Your Results

  • Describe your financial and strategic results in general terms over the past two years. Please take note of the following points:

    • Productivity and innovation
    • Market share improvements
    • Progress compared to your strategic plan
  • What was the revenue of your business?

  • Revenue is the total income that the business generates in a financial year.  If you were not trading 2 or three years ago please enter n/a. 

  • What was the gross profit of your business as a percentage of revenue?

  • Gross profit is the total revenue minus the total cost of providing your goods or services. If you were not trading 2 or 3 years ago please enter 'n/a'.

  • What was the net profit of your business?

  • Net profit is the actual profit after working expenses not included in the calculation of gross profit have been paid. If you were not trading 2 or 3 years ago please enter 'n/a'

  • Upload any appropriate documents that support your responses on this page. We encourage you to attach your accounts as this will assist our judges in their assessment.  Judges all sign confidentiality clauses and are also asked to declare any conflicts of interest. All files are destroyed and/or hard deleted after judging has closed.

  • Please note: After you submit your entry, you will continue to be able to update and edit your application until the closing day of 10 December 2021.

    Applications will be unable to be submitted or edited after 10 December. 

    Finalists will be announced by 9 February 2022 and the Gala Awards event will be held at Shantytown on 18 March 2022.
