• ARtsway, a Columbus Summer Tech Program Application

Bringing Walls to Life, July & August 2023
  • All People Arts (APA), Franklinton Arts District (FAD), Hilltop Arts Collective (HAC), & Maroon Arts Group (MAG) are excited to bring ARtsway, a free mural arts STEAM program to Columbus high school students!

This free 10-session camp is for youth grades 9-12, residing in the city of Columbus, OH, who practice art and have a passion for or interest in mural arts and digital design, as well as augmented reality.

Aspiring young visual artists, designers, and technologists will experience hands-on art-making which infuses technology, design, digital animation, painting, and placemaking. Cohorts of 12 students in 2 neighborhoods (East and West Side) will work with local professional artists and educators to learn how to design a mural – including Procreate on Ipads to scale a small idea onto a big wall. They will experiment with various painting and mixed media techniques culminating in both individual and collaborative murals – including one permanent mural installation per neighborhood. Youth participants will receive a $200 stipend, reinforcing the value of paid artists/designers in enriching our communities. Snacks and refreshments will be provided at each session as well.

Each cohort can accommodate 12 students. Preference will be given to residents from four neighborhoods: King-Lincoln Bronzeville, Franklinton, Hilltop, and South Side, though all high school students who reside in Columbus are welcome to apply.

The cohorts are facilitated by APA, FAD, HAC, & MAG staff and volunteers, artist-educators, plus a variety of guest mural artists and digital experts.

Students will need to be at their respective cohort for all 10 four-hour sessions. Please review the cohorts below for your closest neighborhood and availability and select the cohort you wish to attend from the drop-down list in the application:
