The Braunfels Foundation Trust (BFT) is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization founded in 1974 in New Braunfels, Texas. Its goal is to award 100 Career Tech Scholarships each year to local high school seniors interested in pursuing training and certification in a vocational/technical career.

The First Step Scholarship of $2,500 may be awarded to students who are entering vocational or technical education at community colleges, technical training institutions, or vocational training programs.

Scholarship Eligibility

High school seniors living in the attendance zones of either the Comal ISD or New Braunfels ISD who are seeking training and certification in a vocational/technical career or a two (2) year Associates Degree for an entry level job in a vocational/technical career.

Some career tech examples include, but are not limited to the following vocations and technology trades:

• HVAC Technician
• Diesel Technician
• Electrician                               
• Dental Technician
• Automotive Technician          
• Welder             
• Plumber
• Cosmetologist
• Dental Hygenist
• Automotive Mechanic
• Radiologic and MRI Technologist
• Drafters

Application Instructions

Complete the on-line First Step Career Tech Application 2023. Other applications will not be accepted. Deadline to apply is Thursday, March 3, 2023.

1. Fill-out all required fields.
2. Attach two (2) letters of reference.
3. Attach one (1) copy of your high school transcript.
4. Attach one (1) single-page personal statement specific to this scholarship describing the career tech path you plan to attain and why you should be considered for this scholarship (limited to 1 page).

If you are awarded a scholarship, please plan to attend the BFT Scholarship Reception and awards ceremony in your honor at the McKenna Event Center Ballroom on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 5:30 P.M. to receive your award. Recipients will also be invited to attend the Braunfels Foundation Trust Celebration Luncheon on Monday, October 2, 2023.
