The Society for Developmental Biology is launching an updated blended-learning version of the New Faculty Boot Camp (NFBC). This course will kick off on July 19, 2023, the day before the 2023 SDB Annual Meeting in Chicago, and then meet virtually six more times August-November.
The NFBC is designed for developmental biologists at a relatively early stage of their careers, primarily pre-tenure faculty within their first three years of starting their position and advanced postdoctoral fellows about to enter their first academic position. Course participants will learn how to (1) plan for success; (2) develop as leaders; (3) manage their time, projects, and people; (4) find and secure funding, and (5) grow as teachers and mentors. One of the main goals of this course is to foster a supportive community of practice, building relationships with colleagues going through the same or similar experiences.
This year, the first session of the NFBC (session 0) will be held at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), hosted by Ankur Saxena and colleagues and facilitated by SDB Professional Development and Education members. This in-person session is on July 19, 2023, from 12:30 PM - 6 PM CST. The capacity for the in-person session is limited to 30 participants.
A limited number of travel assistance to the Annual Meeting is available through the SDB Teaching/Junior Faculty Travel Grant (Deadline: April 10, click here for more information).
