Time: 10am - 4pm daily

Size: Each workshop day has a maximum class size of 15 participants.
Enrolments are taken by order of receipt. If we receive your application
after the class has filled we will notify you by email and give you the option
of enrolling in another workshop, if applicable, or being put on a waiting list.

Day 1: Monday 8th January, The Red Tree Conference Room
NAME: ‘Play in a Day: Stories That Matter’
AGE: School Years 7 – 9 in 2024
What are the stories that you’d like to see and tell on stage? In this collaborative workshop participants will learn how to take the stories that matter to them and translate them into an engaging stage performance.
· Learn and Develop techniques in devising original theatrical works
· Explore collaboration techniques through drama games and activities
· Learn how to make your performances engaging and entertaining for your
audiences
· Make new, creatively like-minded friends in a supportive and fun environment.
Day 2: Tuesday 9th January, The Red Tree Conference Room
NAME: ‘Devise This! : Creating Original Performances for the Stage’
AGE: School Years 10 – 12 in 2024
Spend a day with creatively like-minded people, in a fun and relaxed environment, collaborating on the creation of an original theatrical work.
· Learn techniques in devising stories for the stage
· Develop your stage craft skills in theatrical storytelling
· Unlock the creative potential for the stories you’d like to tell
· Explore and develop effective ways to engage an audience
Day 3: Wednesday 10th January 2024, The Red Tree Conference Room
NAME: ‘Standing Out in a Musical Theatre Audition’
AGE: School Years 7 – 12 in 2024
Let’s uncover what you can bring to a musical audition that will make you shine. Through a series of dance, singing and acting activities, participants will explore their strengths and attributes that bring something unique to an audition.
· Learn how to select the appropriate material for your range, look and skill set
· Make sure you are hitting the audition brief
· Investigate ways to use the audition space with maximum impact
· Learn how to inject what is unique about you into a performance
· Establish realistic expectations to manage nerves
· Experience a mock audition
Day 4: Thursday 11th January 2024, The Red Tree Conference Room
NAME: ‘Standing Out in a Drama Audition’
AGE: School Years 7 – 12 in 2024
Let’s uncover what you can bring to a drama audition that will make you shine. Using both monologues and scene work, participants will explore ways they can play to their strengths and show case what makes them unique.
· Explore effective preparation techniques for a dramatic audition.
· Learn how to effectively use the audition space and character to high light
your strength
· Explore effective characterisation techniques for auditions
· Understand how to effectively translate direction within an audition
· Establish realistic expectations to manage audition nerves
· Explore effective self-tape techniques for a theatrical audition
· Develop collaborative skills for a workshop audition.
Day 5: Friday 12th January 2024, The Red Tree Conference Room
NAME: ‘Play in a Day: Little Monsters’
AGE: School Years 5 - 6 in 2024
Working in a fun and collaborative environment, participants will create an original short play that we’ll perform for our families at the end of the day. During the workshop students will be introduced to:
· Storytelling techniques for the stage
· Creating characters
· World building
· Collaborative devising techniques
The emphasis in this workshop is on fun, creative thinking and collaboration.
MEET OUR TEACHING ARTISTS
Danielle Brame Whiting - Senior Facilitator
Danielle is a Central Coast based theatre teaching artist. She is a co-founder of Jopuka Productions and also owns, and is the sole teacher for, XtrAct Drama Academy in Wyong. Danielle holds a Masters in Applied Theatre and is a practising theatre artist who's focus is on the creation of new and relevant works that explore the medium of theatrical storytelling. Danielle's work in theatre includes directing, writing, acting, devising and dramaturgy, and she currently serves as the Creative Development Manager with Jopuka. During 2023 and 2024 Danielle is participating in the Australian Theatre for Young People's (ATYP) Generator Program, which allows regional teaching artists to have access to mentorship and resources for creating more engaging workshop programs in NSW regional areas. This workshop is being supported by the Generator program.
Rayelle Payne - Teaching Assistant
Rayelle spent her last year touring Australia performing in Smashed and Walter Smart with Gibber, a theatre in education company, where she worked alongside some of the most talented up and coming young performers of the industry. She has appeared in plays and musicals across the Central Coast with multiple companies. Most recently Rayelle starred in Kinky Boots as Lauren at Gosford Musical Society. Rayelle is also a Life Member of Jopuka Productions, where she was just recently featured in their March production of American Idiot. As much as Rayelle loves to be onstage she also likes to dabble in the behind the scenes. She has taken on multiple roles offstage most recently Vocal Coaching Frozen Jr and Choreographing School of Rock with Gosford Musical Society also recently Choreographing and Assistant directing Lysa and the Freeborn Dames with Jopuka Productions.
