Background and Procedure
As resolved by the Executive Committee on 13 October 2016, every member of the committee will be asked in the spring of every year (that is, before the Spring annual meeting, which is usually held in May) whether he or she wishes to continue to serve on the committee. The form of this questionnaire appears below.
The by‐laws state, “A member who fails to attend three successive meetings of the Executive Committee, unless excused by the Executive Committee, shall thereby forfeit his or her office.” If a member of the committee has not attended the most recent three meetings of the executive committee and has either answered “yes” to the question or not responded, the president will call him or her and ask if that member wishes to continue to serve.
Questionnaire
Service on the Executive Committee of the Boston Economic Club entails attendance at three meetings a year, in the autumn, winter, and spring. At these meetings, the Executive Committee reviews the club’s finances, elects new members of the club, discusses possible speakers, and, at the spring meeting, elects new officers and, sometimes, new Executive Committee members.
These meetings are an opportunity to discuss other club business, as well. A quorum consists of a majority of the Executive Committee, and it is therefore critical that a majority attend meetings. The club’s by‐laws state, “A member who fails to attend three successive meetings of the Executive Committee, unless excused by the Executive Committee, shall thereby forfeit his or her office.”
