Thank you for your interest in being a foster parent for Infinity Farms Animal Sanctuary and Rescue! Please read the following foster guidelines before submitting your application.
After we receive your properly completed Foster Application Form, we will review it and begin the basic interview process. You must be at least 21 years old to foster an animal with our organization, and you must treat your foster animal(s) as if they were your own. Foster applications can be refused by Infinity Farms Animal Sanctuary and Rescue for any reason.
Your time and efforts are on a voluntary basis. There will be no pay to you for your time or any costs you incur above and beyond the basic care of your foster animal(s).
However, certain extraordinary cases may be reimbursed and can be discussed on a case-by-case basis with our Founder.
We ask that our foster families be as active as possible in helping us to accomplish our Mission. We always need help planning and scheduling events, transporting dogs, and accomplishing many other day-to-day tasks.
Foster Guidelines and Information
Certain duties you as a foster parent will be responsible for include, but are not limited to:
- Ensuring that your foster animal(s) are available for all scheduled veterinary appointments on the day and at the time scheduled. Veterinary appointments are only to be scheduled with the prior approval of the Infinity Farms foster coordinator or owner.
- Every effort will be made to accommodate your personal schedule when making these appointments. We will work with you to ensure that your foster animal gets to all necessary appointments.
- Ensuring all medications are properly administered as scheduled and as required and instructed by our veterinarian.
- You will be required to post monthly online status updates to a foster chat website to verify these items have been accomplished and to give other general updates on how your foster dog is progressing.
- Maintaining a safe environment at your residence and ensuring the wellbeing of the animal(s).
- Animals are required to adhere to the following safety guidelines:
- No dog parks - no exceptions. This protects our animals from getting hurt, sick, or into a dogfight. Daycare is acceptable.
- On leash - all the time. It is Oklahoma law that dogs remain on a leash when outdoors, other than in a fully-fenced yard.
- Supervised at ALL TIMES when outdoors - even in the yard. Some of our animals are escape artists, and we need to make sure they stay safe and at their foster homes.
- Wear proper ID and Infinity Farms tags and collar at all times.
- While you are fostering any of the Infinity Farms Rescue animals, we will make occasional visits to your home to ensure the continued safe environment and care for the animal(s).
- Attending adoption events with your animal(s).
- Because you are the person who spends most of the time with your foster dog, you will be asked to attend adoption events with your animal(s) to be available to answer any questions that a potential adopter may have regarding your foster animal(s).
- Ensuring all animal(s) in your care are properly fed and occasionally purchasing food.
- Infinity Farms Rescue will make every attempt to secure food donations through our network and provide you with food for your foster animal(s). Because we rely on donations, there may be times when there may not be enough food to feed all fosters. If this occurs, YOU will be responsible for purchasing food and ensuring all animal(s) in your care are properly fed.
INFINITY FARMS ANIMAL SANCTUARY AND RESCUE FOSTER POLICY
Our ability to rescue depends entirely on foster homes; the more foster homes we have, the more lives we can save. Infinity Farms Rescue provides: food, vet care, guidance, and other essentials, as well as finding the adoptive home.
We carefully match up foster animals with foster parents based on what works for your household. We work with you to find the best possible match.
Foster animals may stay at their temporary homes for any length, ranging from a few days to weeks and sometimes even months. It all depends on the animal and the amount of time the foster parent can commit to the process.
Bear in mind that a shelter environment followed by a rescue can be very stressful and traumatic for many animals. In your home, they will have a chance to feel safe and secure and to be loved, nurtured, exercised, and socialized.
Foster family responsibilities include:
- Providing care and affection, including socialization, healthy practices, and some basic training.
- Keeping your foster animal on a harness until you learn their strengths & social skills.
- Making sure your foster animal wears his or her ID tag at all times. This ensures a safe return should he or she escape.
- Spending extra time each day playing with your foster animal so he/she is well socialized.
Homeless animals come into shelters year round, so we are always in need of foster homes. When we take an animal from a shelter, it makes room for the next animal in need. Our foster parents are a critical piece of the rescue process, and we are deeply indebted to them for their willingness to welcome new members into their lives. It buys us time to find a new place for the animals to call home.
