Asphalt Density Testing with Nuclear Gauge
For the 12.5 mm mi: (based on theo. spec. density of 153.6, Mix Design ID 77R-12.5SP-32-1) The uncorrected average air voids obtained was 5.9% with a density range of 144.5 pcf to 149.0 pcf. For the 9.5 mm mix: (based on theo. spec. density of 155.3, Mix Design ID 77R-9.5SP-27-1) The uncorrected average air voids obtained was 3.9% with a density range of 146.4 pcf to 149.5 pcf. Note: These readings were taken after the final pass of the finishing roller. Today's asphalt placement of the 12.5 mm SP binder mix started at 9:30 am with an air temperature of 74 Degrees Fahrenheit. Asphalt delivery remained consistent with no extended delays with unloading trucks.
