The mud helps the acorns germinate and protects them while they are growing. The balls are then distributed (tossed randomly) at select locations (this will go to a preserve in Martinez). On Saturday, January 21, 2023, Niles Rotary created over 1000 seed balls!

Silicon Valley Passportmadhu.krish@inclusiveworld.orgHeart of the Valley Service for SeniorsBring Cheer to local seniorsCyndiGoble - 12-01-202111-15-2021Quicker than we can imagine – the Holiday Season will be upon us! Since many seniors haven’t been able to be as social as they were before Covid; loneliness and isolation will be a big problem again this year. Heart of the Valley, SERVICES FOR SENIORS, Inc’s clients will LOVE being able to celebrate in a safe way during the upcoming Holiday months from a little help from generous volunteers like YOU!

With a partnership between Rotary Passport Club of Silicon Valley and Heart of the Valley, together we can provide support and enrich seniors lives even during this pandemic. Heart of the Valley will be creating and delivering a holiday gift to many of its senior clients, many of whom are very low income. For some, this will be their ONLY gift they receive this holiday season. Just knowing that someone cared and was thinking of them will be so meaningful!

At a TBD date/time the week after Thanksgiving, Volunteers will pick-up their list of 5-8 senior clients names, phone numbers, and addresses (senior clients will all live within the same zip code to make deliveries easy!) as well as the tagged gifts for each person. We ask volunteers to reach out ahead of time to the client to make sure they will be home at time of delivery. The volunteer then delivers the gift. Volunteers both spread joy and receive it as well knowing they’ve provided a much-appreciated service! We encourage all deliveries be completed by mid-Dec.

We hope you’ll join Heart of the Valley (HOV) in spreading JOY this upcoming holiday season by brightening a senior’s day…and we are certain it’ll brighten YOUR day as well! Volunteer opportunities:

Reindeer- This is a wonderful opportunity to involve kids in too! Pick up and deliver gifts to our wonderful and appreciative HOV seniors (Takeoff time for Reindeer will begin Dec. 5th with deliveries completed by mid-Dec).

Joy Spreaders- Another fun opportunity for kids to participate in!
Holiday Caroling is sometimes requested by a senior client. If your family or a couple families want to spread joy by singing a few holiday songs- let HOV know! We will connect you with a senior who would enjoy that! This can be done separately or in conjunction with the gift deliveries.

Your spirit of giving will be so appreciated by Heart of the Valley seniors. Please let us know if you would like to help SPREAD JOY this Holiday Season. Please complete the form below to signup by Nov 15th, 2021.

Sunnyvalebrvickrey@gmail.comSunnyvale Community ServicesBack-to-School ProgramMarieBernard(408) 499 577208-02-202108-02-2021What do the Rotary Clubs of Sunnyvale and Memphis have in common? The willingness to do whatever is necessary to make sure that local students are ready for school!

Sunnyvale Community Services (SCS), a local nonprofit, was ready to distribute school supplies and shoe gift cards to 1,600 low-income children on August 2nd - but a week before, 1,600 school supply kits were stuck in Memphis due to COVID-19 delays. They had been stalled there for weeks — and there was no hope that the supplies would arrive in time.
Sunnyvale Rotarian and SCS Executive Director Marie Bernard put out a distress call to her fellow Rotarians who launched into action by reaching out to four Rotary clubs in the Memphis Tennessee area. Living up to their clubs' motto of “service above self,” Memphis Rotarians contacted local logistics experts and executives at FedEx, who negotiated the transfer of the school supplies to another local shipping company. At 7 pm on August 1st, the driver arrived, just 12 hours before the students would be arriving to receive the school supplies. Thanks to the Rotary connections, FedEx donated $6,000 to cover the additional shipping costs. Tennessee Rotarians also connected Sunnyvale Community Services to Memphis and Silicon Valley news teams who covered the "Memphis Miracle" story.
