  • Language, Literacy & Numeracy Assessment - LLN

*** Please allow approximately 20 minutes to complete the LLN assessment, please ensure you read through the information carefully and record a response for each question, once completed and submitted there is no option to edit your answer if you make an error. Upon DP Training receiving your LLN assessment it will be marked by our assessor, you will receive a confirmation of acceptance to the course if the LLN is marked as satisfactory, if for any reason the LLN was not to the satisfaction of the assessor our training manager will contact you to discuss the options available to you.
  • Introduction

DP Training is here to offer you maximum assistance throughout your training experience. Many of the units which form part of the selected course require that you have adequate comprehension and writing skills in order to achieve competence. This assessment provides a method of assessing these skill levels and aims to help us determine the learning approach that is most suited to your specific needs.

DP Training will review your assessment results together with the information gathered during your interview. If your skills do not meet the entry requirements, DP Training may decide to refer you to another training provider for specific training in language, literacy and numeracy

This strategy has been implemented to ensure that you are given the best opportunity to achieve competence and ultimately obtain the skills in your chosen field. We wish you every success in your assessment.

LLN = Language, Literacy & Numeracy

Literacy is using reading, writing, listening and speaking for a purpose and in context.  It is about making choices about what processes to use and when, where and how to use them.

The term numeracy involves, along with the ability to use mathematical processes, an ability to make decisions about what processes to use and when, where and how to use them.  Numeracy is using mathematical concepts for a purpose and in a context.

  • Activity One

Read the following information then answer questions 1 to 5
  • The kangaroo, indigenous to Australia, is an internationally recognised symbol of Australia. Having the honour of being one of two animals to grace the Australian coat of arms, this animal enjoys a celebrity status and the privilege of being a protected wildlife species.

However, some farmers claim that kangaroos are a pest in the bush as they cause severe damage to crops. During times of drought when food becomes sparse, kangaroos have been known to destroy crops for their own survival. During times of fair weather and abundant crops the kangaroo population swells dramatically.

Farmers also complain that kangaroos, which can travel up to speeds of 60 kilometres per hour are a serious risk to motorists in rural areas. Indeed, many kangaroos are killed each year on Australian roads, usually attempting to cross busy highways, often causing severe damage to the vehicles involved and endangering the lives of the occupants.

So while most of us would view the Kangaroo as a harmless native Australian animal and a national symbol of our Australian pride, kangaroos can also be a challenge to people living in rural communities.

  • Activity Two

  • Activity Four

Read through the case study then write a formal letter to management about the incident and any recommendations. Use the information contained in this case study to write your letter.
  • The following incident occurred in the commercial kitchen of Scott Foods, 17 Murray Rd, Windsor,4030.

Towards the end of a shift in the commercial kitchen a worker slipped and fell, sustaining serious burns after coming in contact with a tub of hot water.
The tub of water was positioned beside the walkway near the deep fryer and had been used for cleaning the floor. In the same area, several floor tiles were missing. This hollowed tile area allowed pooling of water and oil, which was tracked throughout the kitchen.
The kitchen floor was required to be cleaned at the end of each shift. Workers were advised to wear enclosed shoes but no advice was provided regarding the type of non-slip sole that should be worn.
