  • Passionate about the arts and creativity? Looking to gain hands-on experience with a leading arts organisation? Interested in learning from creative professionals and contributing to a major cultural event?

    The AWESOME Festival is an annual celebration of arts and culture for children aged 0 - 12 and their families, bringing together performances, workshops, exhibitions, activities and events that inspire imagination and creativity.

    In 2026, the AWESOME Festival will be delivered across two hubs: Perth Cultural Centre and Subiaco Arts Centre, with full day and half day shifts available from Tuesday 29 September - Saturday 3 October.

    We aim to make our volunteer experience fun, rewarding, insightful and educational.

    Please note: Volunteers must be 15 years or older and have a current Working with Children Check if 18 years or older (can be obtained through Barking Gecko Arts).

    If you are aged 18 or over, you must hold a valid Working with Children Check to volunteer at the AWESOME Festival. It is a requirement that we sight this before your first shift.

  • Aged 18 or over and don't have a current WWCC? No problem, we will post a pre-filled form to you!

    Once it gets to you, just complete the required sections and take it to your local post office with 100 points of identification to lodge. It will only cost you $11, is valid for 3 years and can be used for any child-related work. For more information, click here.

  • Festival Assistant

    Festival Assistants are the driving force behind the AWESOME Festival! Every shift brings something new and exciting, with a variety of hands-on tasks.

    You might,

    • Work alongside professional WA artists;
    • Supervise exhibition spaces and installations;
    • Assist with front of house and provide excellent customer service;
    • Distribute survey cards and programs;
    • Dress up as one of our Festival Mascots!

    We’re looking for enthusiastic, adaptable volunteers who thrive in a vibrant festival environment and love engaging with the public in a positive way.

    In 2026, the AWESOME Festival will be delivered across two hubs: Perth Cultural Centre and Subiaco Arts Centre. Please note that you will be rostered for ALL shifts you select. We will confirm your schedule and assigned hub closer to the festival.

  • I understand that as an AWESOME Festival volunteer I am a representative of the Festival and of Barking Gecko Arts, and agree to conduct myself in a friendly and professional manner at all times.

    I understand that the effective and professional running of the AWESOME Festival relies on the work of volunteers, and therefore I will endeavour to be punctual and reliable in relation to the times I have agreed to volunteer.

    I will endeavour to give at least 24 hours notice if I am unable to fulfil my commitments as scheduled.

    I understand that I am expected to read the volunteer manual thoroughly and adhere to the protocols and processes detailed within.

    I understand that I am required to attend a volunteer briefing session (online) before the commencement of the Festival.

    I understand I am covered by Barking Gecko Arts' Volunteer Insurance for all volunteer work carried out during my scheduled shifts, on the condition I sign-in and sign-out each day.

    I understand that Barking Gecko Arts and their associated partners are entitled to the use and distribution of any photos or videos taken of me unless I specify otherwise in writing.

    I agree to have a valid Working With Children Check if I am 18 years of age or over.

    I understand that I will be rostered for all shifts I select, and that my hub location will be communicated to me closer to the festival.
