• Goolwa New Year’s Eve Community Opinion Questionnaire

    The Goolwa Community Association values your input into the road closures for the Fireworks off of the Bridge and the timing of the Fireworks. Firstly, we do need to acknowledge that we have looked into both drone shows (minimum of $40k) and a light show (set up $500k), both of these options are not financially possible (yet) so do not suggest them. We understand some of the community hate fireworks, this is not an opportunity to berate us or anyone who wants fireworks, we are genuinely looking for the best cost effective and community involved solution for NYE Fireworks in Goolwa. To close the bridge on NYE for the midnight fireworks costs about $12k, while some of this can be covered by the Council, the remainder needs to be funded by the Goolwa Community Association and sponsors. This $12k is made up of road closures and a $3000+ cost to do a mail out to all Hindmarsh Island residents advising of the closure (we are not joking and there is no way around it). We also understand that the timing of the road closures can be problematic for Hindmarsh Island residents. If you know of any local businesses or other sponsors to help financially support the event, please let us know.

  • As discussed above, the road closure for the bridge are quite expensive, this does not include the cost of the fireworks.  The Goolwa Community Assocition relies on sponsors and funding from the community.  We did not lose money on the Riding out the Bloom concert but we did not make enough to even cover the costs associated with the Christmas Concert and Flotilla.  This is why we are looking into options NYE.
