PoD-PH Scholars is a program designed to train a cadre of physician leaders in medicine and public health. Specifically, each cohort of students within this program combines a series of didactic public health coursework with a Madison-based public health field experience. Specific program objectives include the following:
- Develop/improve leadership skills
- Work collaboratively with individuals/groups from other disciplines
- Develop skills to address issues of health disparities
- Improve community engagement skills
- Improve advocacy skills
As part of the program students would be complete the following:
- Enroll in PHS 712: Leadership in Medicine and Public Health (1 credit) (pre-requisite)
- Enroll in PHS 715: Introduction to Community Engagement (1 credit) (second semester Phase 1)
- Spend 8-10 weeks conducting field work starting summer of Phase 1 and present findings back to field site.
- During the summer participate in regularly scheduled meetings.
- Share their experience and assist in transition of project to next cohort of PoD-PH Scholars
Those accepted to this program will earn $400 a week, to a maximum of $4,000.
Applications must be submitted by the end of the day on January 14, 2018. Notification about program acceptance will be made no later than February 15, 2017.
