Upload to Dropbox with JotForm

Last Update: December 13, 2015

First of all, you should have an upload field on your form to integrate your forms with Dropbox. This way, you will directly receive uploads to your Dropbox in no time. Let's look on how to allow a single form to upload to your Dropbox in a few steps.

a. Click the "Integrations" button in the main form builder tools.

b. In the Integrations wizard, please click the "Dropbox" option from the Documents Sharing category:

c. Click the "Authenticate" button

d. Login to your Dropbox Account and click the "Allow" button

e. You will see that your Dropbox account is now "Authenticated".

f. In the same window, you will have to create the Dropbox folder. You have the option to select defaults or use custom folder name in the following:

-Dropbox root folder name
-Submission folder name

The folder setup is self-explanatory, we made it simple and easy.

For default folder names, you will get this:

For field based folder names, you will have to click the "pencil" icon to select the field:

You have to click the "Apply" button save the selection. Note that you can also add the submission date before the submission folder name. Simply check the option if you want to add it.

For user defined folder names, you just need to click the second box and put your custom folder name. For example:

g. Now, simply click the "Complete Integration" to save:

h. The integration is now ready. Simply click "Finish" button to complete it:

If you want to setup the folders using the Unique ID widget, we have this separate guide for you:

Is there a way to change the folder name of the submitted files in dropbox? Right now it is an 18 digit number. Would be nice to have the option to name it based on a form field.

For this time I will answer but please post your questions to the forum.

1) Open myforms
2)Click on submissions.
3)On the opened page there is a gear icon on the right corner. 4)Click on it.
5)Click on manage Dropbox
6)You can change the folder name from there.

I have set up the drop box integration on my form but nothing seems to be happening - nothing is being uploaded to drop box but I can't see why - can you add some more detail to the above please? Thanks

serkan (April 07, 2011 at 09:59 AM)

@Flick It should be fixed now. Please remove integration and re-connect with Dropbox.

When saving under a clients name for example, if the same form is saved by the same client, the old form in drop box is overwritten and lost? can we have some time/date fields so PDF's are saved in the same client folder - rather than one at a time. This seams madness!!! the whole reason to save to dropbox is for record keeping - not record overwriting! looking forward to your comments.

Is there a max file size for dropbox uploads? Also, can you choose not to have a public jotform link to the uploaded file?

At the moment, there are only two options for using the dropbox function:
1) Use Default - Submission ID
2) No Folder

There is no option to chose a specific folder or am I missing it?

When I click on "Send Submissions to DropBox," it doesn't work! All that happens is I get a window popping up with "{"success":true,"message":"","total":1,"data":"xxxxx"}"
What do I need to do to fix this??

Tried using this for some applications that needed 5-7 documents uploaded with the form. We ended up have several incomplete applications, when the students were asked for the documents they assured me they had uploaded them and didn't get an error message. Any help with this intermittent issue? If things had worked this would have been such a time saver!

When uploading files to dropbox, someone mentioned that the link to the file is not protected? I thought all files in dropbox were protected unless explicitly shared??

Can someone who knows please explain what happens with the files being uploaded to jotform before they make it to dropbox, and are those files available in any way??

Is there a way to upload form submissions to a main folder but have them use a form field [name] as the name of the PDF instead of the submission ID#?

Dropbox/Jotform/Registration/JaneDoe.pdf

the only way i can find to use a form field is to have each PDF have it's own folder too

Dropbox/Jotform/Registration/JaneDoe/JaneDoe.pdf

Hy, same here as mrpicketts: all files are still stored on jotform - even if they are transmitted to dropbox or deleted in dropbox. There is no possibility to have an auto-delete of submissions on jotform-servers. If you don't delete them manually, they will stay there forever.
We have a paid plan, so there is no need to limit us in choosing our own storage solution. please fix this - thanks!

Why does JotForm's Dropbox integration have to have access to "all files and folders" in Dropbox?

I would like to grant it permisssion to access one folder which is specified for JotForm use. While I would liike to link a Dropbox folder to JotForm, I am concerned about the privacy and integrity of my other folders in my Dropbox account.

That pretty much renders an attache and upload to box feature USELESS

I have tried this but when I submit my form I just get a spinning circle and nothing is saved to Dropbox. There is a check mark against the Dropbox icon in Integrations suggesting all is well. I try to authenticate the Dropbox integration (again) but I just get 3 moving dots for hours and not getting to the end of authentication. Anyone any ideas please?

I have my submissions sent to a Dropbox folder.

How do i have my submissions put in a folder (inside the Dropbox folder) named "[response date] - [Submitter Name] - [Article Name] - [School]"
Assuming the fileds are {submitterName}, {articleName} and {school}.

I used to be able to do this, now it's acting strange, only allowing one field, and adding "- Submitter Name" to the end of the file...
