Upload to Dropbox with JotForm

Last Update: July 31, 2014

First of all, you should have an upload field on your form to integrate your forms with Dropbox. This way, you will directly receive uploads to your Dropbox in no time. Let's look on how to allow a single form to upload to your Dropbox in a few steps.

1. While on edit mode, click Setup & Embed

2. Click Integrations

3. Go to Document Sharing tab

4. Select Dropbox Forms

5. Click Authenticate and connect your Dropbox Account.

6. After authenticating your Dropbox account, you will be directed back to the Integration Wizard. Click "Next" and create your Dropbox folder. This folder will be automatically created on your Dropbox account for every single submission on your form. The folder setup is self-explanatory, we made it simple and easy.

UPDATE: Many of our users requested us to be able to choose Custom Names for folders. You can make these combinations

a)Based on a Unique ID

Just add the Unique ID and set it up accordingly.

Then manage the custom names to your convenience.

b) User Defined folders: You can define custom folders names for the Root Folder, the Submission Folder and the Extended Folder.

You can even add the date of the submission as part of the path
Dropbox root/Flowershop/Submission Date - May - Mothers day

7. Hit Next and that's it! Your form is now ready to upload files to your Dropbox account.

If you want to change/update your Dropbox folder names, just follow the same steps and click Manage Integration.

For more information about our Dropbox integration please check out here. You're welcome to comment on anywhere that you get lost or if you just want to find out more.

Is there a way to change the folder name of the submitted files in dropbox? Right now it is an 18 digit number. Would be nice to have the option to name it based on a form field.

For this time I will answer but please post your questions to the forum.

1) Open myforms
2)Click on submissions.
3)On the opened page there is a gear icon on the right corner. 4)Click on it.
5)Click on manage Dropbox
6)You can change the folder name from there.

I have set up the drop box integration on my form but nothing seems to be happening - nothing is being uploaded to drop box but I can't see why - can you add some more detail to the above please? Thanks

serkan (April 07, 2011 at 09:59 AM)

@Flick It should be fixed now. Please remove integration and re-connect with Dropbox.

When saving under a clients name for example, if the same form is saved by the same client, the old form in drop box is overwritten and lost? can we have some time/date fields so PDF's are saved in the same client folder - rather than one at a time. This seams madness!!! the whole reason to save to dropbox is for record keeping - not record overwriting! looking forward to your comments.

Is there a max file size for dropbox uploads? Also, can you choose not to have a public jotform link to the uploaded file?

At the moment, there are only two options for using the dropbox function:
1) Use Default - Submission ID
2) No Folder

There is no option to chose a specific folder or am I missing it?

When I click on "Send Submissions to DropBox," it doesn't work! All that happens is I get a window popping up with "{"success":true,"message":"","total":1,"data":"xxxxx"}"
What do I need to do to fix this??

Tried using this for some applications that needed 5-7 documents uploaded with the form. We ended up have several incomplete applications, when the students were asked for the documents they assured me they had uploaded them and didn't get an error message. Any help with this intermittent issue? If things had worked this would have been such a time saver!

I'm using the free version of Jot Form. I'm using the Dropbox integration for music uploads. Currently have 5 upload buttons. What is the maximum number of upload buttons and maximum size of all files combined for one submission? Thanks in advance

When uploading files to dropbox, someone mentioned that the link to the file is not protected? I thought all files in dropbox were protected unless explicitly shared??

Can someone who knows please explain what happens with the files being uploaded to jotform before they make it to dropbox, and are those files available in any way??

Is there a way to upload form submissions to a main folder but have them use a form field [name] as the name of the PDF instead of the submission ID#?

the only way i can find to use a form field is to have each PDF have it's own folder too

Is there any way to create a preview of the selected file on a dropbox submission form?

View Answer

abteilung (March 12, 2015 at 12:03 PM)

Hy, same here as mrpicketts: all files are still stored on jotform - even if they are transmitted to dropbox or deleted in dropbox. There is no possibility to have an auto-delete of submissions on jotform-servers. If you don't delete them manually, they will stay there forever.
We have a paid plan, so there is no need to limit us in choosing our own storage solution. please fix this - thanks!
