If you need your form fillers to get an instant pre-written reply or a copy of their data after submission, you can use Autoresponder. By default, when a respondent replies to an autoresponder email, the message is sent to your email address.
The Form Builder automatically creates an autoresponder email once you add an Email element to your form.
To create or edit an Autoresponder
- In the Form Builder, go to Settings at the top.
- Select Emails on the left.
- Choose whether to create or edit an Autoresponder.
- To create an Autoresponder, click Add an email, then select Autoresponder Email.
- To edit an Autoresponder, select its pencil icon.
- Customize your autoresponder email in the editor.
To learn more, see Editing Email Templates.
Note: The Test Email button always sends the test email to your account’s email address. To check other recipients, send a test entry to your form.
Changing Email Recipients
To change the recipients and other email information, edit your autoresponder, then go to Recipients.
Here are the available options in the Recipients tab:
- Sender Name — The “from” name that appears in the email.
- Reply-to Email — The address where the message is sent when recipients reply to your autoresponder email.
- Recipient Email — Mapped to one of your form’s email fields, this is the address where the autoresponder email is sent after submission.
Accessing Advanced Options
The Autoresponder’s Advanced tab holds additional options for your autoresponder like changing the sender address and adding file attachments to name a few.
To view advanced options, edit your autoresponder, then go to Advanced.
Here are the available options:
- Send Email When — Triggers for sending the autoresponder email.
- PDF Attachment — Add PDF documents to your email.
- Attach a File — Attach a file to your email.
- Send Emails Later — Delay or schedule sending the email.
- Hide Empty Fields — Exclude empty fields in your email when turned on.
- Update Email — The email template ignores changes on your form when turned off.
- Sender Email — Send the email using your SMTP server instead of Jotform’s servers. To learn more, see Adding a Custom Sender Address and Setting Up SMTP.

Autoresponder emails only uses form fields. In my case I use jotform for sending out contract and I want to be able to send them the whole contract (including the fields they filled out and the terms of services defined in the contract, and have the ability to either attach a pdf copy of it or have them download the copy themselves. is there any way to do that?

Hi, I'm loving Jotform!
I have a clarification question. I set up a form and added that the respondents should get an email with their results with a PDF attachment. I uploaded and added a 2nd attachment. I then replied as if I was a user/respondent. I received 2 emails. The first one had my responses in the body of the email, with an option under the email box in blue, to edit my submission. The 2nd email came right afterwards and had the same email body content (but not edit submission option) and had the 2 PDFs attached.
Will people get both emails? Being able to get their responses sent to them and to be able to go back in and edit are both important in how we will use this. I want to understand which automated emails they will get so I can give direction. Might be confusing that the 2nd email does not have the "edit submission" option.
Also, I'd like to learn more on the calculations capability. Is there a video?

The following paragraph is erroneous as you must select from a drop-down on autoresponder email and do not have the opportunity to add additional email addresses:
"Additionally, there is also the chance that you may have more than one Email Address that you wish to use in your Autoresponder to be listed with the notification being sent to Multiple Recipients.."

Im setting up autoresponder email and its not letting me put anything in the "recipient email" space. The drop down menu states "please select" but it doesn't let me add anything. This is a problem because I cannot save the email auto responder. Also, what should I put in that box so that it automatically responds to whomever buys a ticket to our event.

We have an issue that has been occurring sporadically but more and more frequently.
Our clients submit a weekly rsvp thru our form called "Artisan Weekly Reservation". We ARE receiving the notification of their RSVP on our end, however, Some clients are NOT receiving the autoresponder confirmation email.
I have been troubleshooting with one client, in particular. He has tried 4 times:
His email provider is through GoDaddy into Outlook on a PC running Windows 10, as well as into the Apple email system on his iPhone. He has submitted using Chrome as well as Edge on his PC
He did a broad search including his junk mail and there is still nothing from Jotform or from us.
I am on a Mac operating Yosemite 10.10.5 (where the forms were created). Our clients access the forms through our Squarespace website. Everything seems to work except for receiving the email notification for SOME clients.
The form and autoresponder work just fine most of the time, for 2 years, except for a handful of of our regular clients for some reason.
I have attached screenshots of our form settings as well as the link to the form in question.
I have also attached a screenshot of a Notification block popup that comes up for me sometimes, which I Allow. Is there a PC version of this?
Could there be some compatibility issue?
Could there be a Block or Setting somewhere that you can help me walk them through?
Again, I am on a Mac and He is on a PC, which I know nothing about.

I am wondering if this could be a solution to the workflow I need. I am creating a photo editing service. The ideal workflow would look like this:
1. A customer purchases a service, fills out the form, and uploads their photos.
2. Upon successful payment and upload of the photos two autoresponder emails are sent out. One to them confirming their order, and the second and most importantly an autoresponder email to my editing staff telling them they have a new job to complete, AND it has a respond feature (it looks like this is the advanced features explained above) to upload and send back the finished photos.
3. My editing staff can download the photos uploaded from the customer, edit them, and then return them using the form in the initial autoresponder email with the upload feature.
Will this work? If so, is there also a way for my editing team to check a box on the form to return the edited photos that will somehow mark the job as complete?

Hi, I've set up an auto response follow-up email to be sent to recipients on a custom date (eg: rep sport nomination - acknowledgement auto response1 and follow-up reminder about trials day auto response2). The test email for auto response2 worked fine. The custom option allows me to set the date to send the email, eg: today, but not the time. this is not what i need
example: I have 5 addresses that receive the form once submitted (auto responder set to carry out this task) sometimes I only want to send to 3 of the recipients. The form address is shared only by the five, so each can fill out the form and all will receive a copy. I need a way for any of the five to select who out of the five their submission will be delivered too. I understand that I can remove emails from the notifier but not only does this make things complicated other people would need access to the dashboard. I'm having trouble getting the Autoresponder email to work. I'm trying to do the following:
1. have someone fill out my form (travel fellowship) which asks for their recommender's email address.
2. when the travel fellowship form is submitted, an autoresponder email is sent to the recommender's email which includes a link for the recommender to fill out and upload their recommendation (Reference form).
3. The link to the Reference form the recommender will receive should have prepopulated fields that are pulled from the Travel Fellowship form.
Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong? The test autoresponder email works just fine. But when I test the form, I can't get the autoresponder email to work.

I have a form on my website where visitors can submit in order to receive a free report. I would like consumers to be able to receive a confirmation e-mail with a verification link so that they can verify that they have received their e-mail (this is important because I have received submission in which the e-mail addresses have not been valid)and then I want them to receive another auto responder with my welcome message... Is this possible to do?

I don't get autoresponder form if ik fill in the form.
I have no problems with getting the test form. But if i fill up the form, like anyone else have to, I get no autoresponding in my mailbox

?? When I click "SetUp and Embed" it only shows my JotForm. There is no box appearing that shows "notification email or autoresponder email" at all...

I need to set up a web page with an offer for a free ebook. I would ask for their name and email address through a Jotform and they would hit the submit button. Then I'm hoping to include a link for the ebook download on the auto responder page. Does this make sense? Thank you, Ed Stott ed@stottmarketing.com

I used your template for the Tell-A-Friend to create an invitation to church. It works well except for sending to the friend and the person who sent it. It only sends to the form owner. Thank you for any help.

Is the autoresponder email just send once after the initial submit? If one goes back to the same form (using editlink) and adds more info to the same form, is another autoresponder email sent when they hit submit? Thanks! Sunil

In my form I have a table (matrix) for responses. In the response email, however, there is on the responses and the row and column headings do not appear. Is there a way to show these? Thanks.

I am trying to create a unique reply address - for example a varying email address which is made up of only a part or a field.
the varying part of the email address is the beginning 12345@fred.com - the @fred.com is always the same - the varying data is from an input field - 12345 - there is only a drop down menu on the autoresponder email and not the access to add teh field - BTW - this is easy to do in the Subject field... any advice would be really helpful. I will have an agent who will input into forms for various clients.
The form will contain 2 email addresses. (Agent and Client). Once a form has been successfully submitted I would like to inform the Agent and Client via E mail as proof. Is this possible.
