It’s hard to believe Jotform is 20 years old.
I joined Jotform in 2020, shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic began. I would soon learn how truly far-reaching, robust, and competitive the online form industry was — something I’d discover while working alongside great people in a great culture of ownership, collaboration, and celebration of jobs well done.
It’s humbling to look back on the company’s growth over the past few years. But expanding that perspective all the way back to 2006 when Jotform was founded makes all of us very thankful for our present-day standing.
20 years of sustainable growth
From being the first what-you-see-is-what-you-get (WYSIWYG) online form builder in 2006 to having over 35 million users in 2026, Jotform’s 20-year journey has been a fascinating one.
Let’s take a look at the milestones we’ve reached along the way, made possible by a team that includes you, our partners, and Jotform employees throughout the years.
The early years
Thousands of users: Jotform’s early years were similar to many startups, beginning with a tight-knit staff of one, then three, followed by a growing group after that. Throughout 2006 and 2007, the number of Jotform users steadily grew from the thousands to the tens of thousands as our founder, Aytekin Tank, nurtured the company along.
#1: In 2007, Jotform hired its first employee, as Aytekin realized he had a business on his hands and needed to start delegating responsibility.
3.5 million: In 2008, Jotform saw almost four million form submissions come through, simultaneously confirming the business’s viability and the value of digital forms. That year also marked the milestone of reaching 1,000 paid customers.
3.0: In April of 2010, Jotform released its 3.0 version of the site. It featured an improved user interface, new field types, and maybe most importantly, the first appearance of conditional logic and payment processor integrations in forms.
1 million: Reaching one million users is an important milestone for any tech company, and Jotform hit that goal in January 2013. It was a proud moment, demonstrating Jotform’s product-market fit. It also was the beginning of the real work: transitioning to more efficient infrastructure, implementing necessary processes, and bringing on more resources.
The middle years
5.1.15: As it approached 10 years in business, Jotform unveiled its very first Enterprise plan for large organizations in May 2015. That year also marked 1 million form widgets used.
192: In 2016, Jotform became a truly global company as it expanded into 192 countries.
4.0: In February 2017, Jotform launched its 4.0 version of the site. The new version highlighted the ability to build forms on a mobile device.
100: In 2018, when Jotform was 12 years old, we hired our 100th employee. Other startups tend to reach that level faster (following the “hire fast, fire faster” ethos), but for a bootstrapped company like Jotform, hiring slowly and producing steady, sustainable growth was the right move.
13: That’s the number of top features highlighted when Jotform released Mobile Forms, a free mobile app that lets users collect and manage data anywhere — including offline.
The recent years
4: 2020 is a year no one will forget. Jotform had four foundational launches that year, including Jotform Tables, Report Builder, and Smart PDF Forms. Maybe the most meaningful “launch” that year, though, was our Coronavirus Responder Program, which provided free, unlimited HIPAA-friendly plans to healthcare, government, and nonprofit users who were helping their communities battle COVID-19.
10 million + 2: In March of 2021, Jotform hit 10 million users and underwent a rebrand to what you see today. That year also saw the launch of two major new products: Jotform Apps and Jotform Approvals (now Workflows).
2022: Jotform hit 15 million users in March of that year. In the fall, we released Jotform Sign, which allows users to build and share e-sign documents in just minutes.
1 + 2: In 2023, we released our two-volume e-book series Jotform for Beginners, helping to educate users about Jotform’s history, products, and features. We also reached the milestone of 20 million users.
50 million forms: In 2024, Jotform celebrated the creation of over 50 million forms by users around the world. That year also saw us reach 25 million users, the third straight year of growth of at least 5 million users annually.
16: In 2025, Jotform launched AI Agents, giving you an automated assistant that matches your unique brand and handles customer inquiries in friendly, real-time conversations. AI Agents can automate tasks across 16 different channels. It was also the first year we grew by 10 million users in a single year.
