Jotform makes it easy to receive instant text message alerts for new form submissions. With SMS Notifications, you can get real-time updates sent straight to your mobile phone—no app installation needed. It’s a simple and reliable way to stay informed, especially if you prefer quick notifications through standard text messages.
Verifying Your Phone Number
Before you can send SMS Notification, your Phone Number must be verified first. It’s easy to do, here’s how:
- In Form Builder, in the orange navigation bar at the top of the page, click on Settings.
- Then, in the menu on the left, click on Notifications.
- Now, select SMS/Text Message from the list of available notification channels.
And you can also do it this way from the Integrations tab:
- In Form Builder, in the orange navigation bar at the top of the page, click on Settings.
- Then, in the menu on the left, click on Integrations.
- Now, search for SMS and click on it.
- Next, under the Phone Number section, enter your Phone Number to verify it and click on Next.
- Then, enter the Verification Code that was sent to your Phone Number and click on Next.
And that’s it. Once verified, your number will appear as an available option for all your forms.
Note
If you’ve already verified your phone number, it will automatically be pre-selected in the dropdown and no additional steps are required
Customizing Your SMS
By default, Jotform inserts a short optimized message where you can edit, reorder, or delete these fields as needed:
New Submission for {Form Title} - {Submission ID}
Name: {name}
Email: {email}
{submission_url}
Note
- SMS does not support rich formatting.
- Use short messages to avoid multi-part SMS. The character limit is 80.
- Submission URL should be a Short URL to save characters (recommended).
Saving and Testing Your SMS Notification
After you set up your phone number and customize your SMS message, save your changes and test the notification to make sure everything works as expected. Here’s how:
- In the bottom-right of the page, click on Save.
Now, submit a test entry on your form. You should receive a text message with the fields you configured.
If you don’t receive the SMS, check the following:
- Make sure your number is verified.
- Confirm that the correct number is selected in the dropdown.
- Check that your mobile network allows International SMS.
Once your phone number is verified, your SMS message is customized, and your test notification works, you’re all set. From now on, you’ll receive real-time text alerts for every new submission on your form—keeping you informed instantly and helping you stay on top of your responses.
