appending additional text to a SalesForce text field

    Hi,

We have a "Notes" text field in our SalesForce Contact Record. We use Jotform to let people signup for various events and some of these forms have a field to which the user can add information. When a SalesForce Contact record already exists, we would like a Jotform submission to append its text to any existing text in the "Notes" field.

Is there a way to do this?

    Hi Grace,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. I apologize for the confusion on your question. To confirm, do you want the submission to create Salesforce data? Also, can you tell us which field will it be filled out with? So we can test it.

It would greatly help us come up with a resolution if you could record a video explaining what you are trying to achieve, so we can follow it. You can use loom as your screen recorder, and you can paste the link here, so we can view it.

After we hear back from you, we’ll have a better idea of what’s going on and how to help.

Here is a form that shows what I would like to do: https://www.jotform.com/build/233375699955174

It has a text field called "Allergies and Special Considerations" that let the user enter anything they would like.

If you look at the Salesforce integration, you'll see that this field sets a Salesforce called "Allergies / Special Considersations".

When someone submits this form for a person who is not in our Salesforce yet, this field gets filled in as expected. However, if the person already exists in our Salesforce (First Name, Last Name and Birthdate matches), any data in the "Allergies / Special Considerations" field gets overwritten from the submission field.

Is there a way to tell Jotform that we want the "Allergies and Special Considerations" Jotform field to be appended to whatever is already in the "Allergies / Special Considerations" field in Salesforce for existing Salesforce Contact records?

    Hi Grace,

Thanks for reaching us back. Are you trying to add additional details to an already existing data in your Salesforce integration from a Jotform submission? If so, unfortunately, it is not possible. When integrating Salesforce with Jotform, you have an option to either create a record, or find an exisiting one. See the screenshot below:

This means that when data is uploaded to Salesforce, it will populate the data that matches the mapped field you made with the integration, and will update any information that already exists in one, if any. One option would be to make a different form only for current contacts, adding only the fields that require updating. To find out if there is a way to lock the data so that it is not updated, you may also get in touch with Salesforce support.

Let us know if you have any other questions.
