Can a field pre-populate a name from a student master list?

One of my questions on my survey tracker is asking for student name (since we do not require a login and this will be in public access area for multiple students to access). Right now, they have to type in their last and first name. (we currently have no pre-determined info for the student). To reduce typing errors and to save the student time of typing their full name... what if I create a master student file (in Excel?) --then once the student tabs to the name fields on the survey -- can the form pre-fill name after they start typing their last name?

example -- as student start's to enter last name ---i.e. after typing first two letters of Carter --then it accesses my student excel list and brings up Carter in last name --and also brings up first name "Tom". (assuming only student with "Ca" as first two letters in last name. 

We have about 200 students

Hopefully this makes sense and if there are other options, please let me know.
