matrix - different input data for different columns

    Hi there

I am thinking about using jotform for registrations for an event. What we were hoping for was that attendees could put info about them and then tick what days they are attending - all in one matrix (see screengrab below). However, after looking at some other threads it appears that it is not possible to have text input in one column and a checkbox in another in the same matrix, so I was wondering if there are any other solutions - for example, can you have the data entered in one matrix (eg. name) then prepopulate into another matrix where they can choose what days they are attending the event? Or is there a better solution to getting the data needed?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,

You are actually correct already in your initial assessment... JotForm matrix field simply could NOT mixed input types..

Even if using the form source code, and changed an input type to be different; i.e. a checkbox matrix field, then changed one checkbox into textbox type -- will not work.

And although I have not tried yet, I think your idea to use 2 matrix field could work.

The 1st matrix is for the first/last name data... then using the values from 1st matrix, the first/last name column of the 2nd matrix value should be pulled from 1st matrix.

The first/last name column in 2nd matrix can be a label or read-only value.. to make it appear to be linked or associated to the values in 1st matrix..

Then using the 2nd matrix, since there is first/last name column.. the right person can now tick checkboxes base on their desire days.

To do this, you will have to use the form source code, and create a custom functions  to pull data from 1st matrix and link it to 2nd matrix.

    Thanks.

You should probably make the matrix row number fixed (i.e. max 10 rows on both matrix field).

As it could probably more difficult to come up with a dynamic resizing matrix row base on the number of registrant.

    Hi,

I just realized that using the matrix field is not good because it would mean allowing multiple registrants accessing the same form (1 only).
This would mean giving the public access to Edit_Link in the form.

What I think is ideal is to use the form google spreadsheet integration instead. You can create formulas and links on the spreadsheet to come up with the desired result view (base on your 1st screen).

Just create the normal form with names, days/week fields...
When integrated with the spreadsheet, you will have the rows and columns data accordingly that you can manipulate in google.

    Thanks.
