How do I set a default value for an inventory widget?

I'd like the default "Number of Guests Attending" to be 1. How do I do this on this form? (I'm using the inventory widget so that I can calculate and limit the number of seats.)

Unfortunately, it is not possible to set a default value in the Inventory widget. However, the default value works on regular dropdowns and textboxes though I understand that it is not that helpful because it doesn't show the limit or available options.

Setting it as a required field is a good solution. In this way, the user will not be able to submit the form without selecting a value.
