How to change the date format of "DatePicker Year Month" widget?

This widget allows the user to select a month and year. If they pick, say, "May, 2017", the contents of the field is "01/05/2017".  How can I change this to "05/01/2017" or even better, JUST THE MONTH AND YEAR (05/2017)!?!?!?!

I am not sure if I have understood your question correctly. Please note that "DatePicker Year Month" widget only shows Month/Year. Please check the screenshot below:

Do you mean to say that you want to display the date format as 05/01/2017 or just the month year? I would suggest you to please use regular date field or "Date Picker" widget which will allow you to set the date format. Please check the screenshot below:

If you just want to show month & year, I would suggest you to please use dropdown fields to list month and year. Please check the screenshot below:

But no...you did not understand my question correctly. Sorry i wasn't clear.

The widget displays month and year (as in "May 2017"). But when the form is submitted, the data in the field is stored as "01/05/2017". To me (US) this looks like Jan 5, 2017. I would like it stored the other way ("05/01/2107") or even better as "05/2017" since the whole point is NOT to need the day!!!

Unfortunately "DatePicker Year Month" widget does not have any option to change the date format. I am creating a feature request ticket and forwarding it to our backend team. Though we cannot provide and ETA on this but we will get back to you as soon as we have any update from them.

For now, I would suggest you to please use  "Date Picker" widget and change the date format to desired one.
