Calculate the difference between two times in hours and minutes

How can I return a value of say hours and minutes i.e. 8.15 or 8:15

Calculating the different between two different times in a bit tricky when you want the answer returned in hours and minutes.  Here is a great thread with information on how to do so:

If you use a different field for the date, calculating the number of days difference between two field is much easier.  The calculation would only require a calculation of date end minus date start.
