Redirecting after making payment with PayPal

Asked by batourguide on August 28, 2012 at 10:44 AM

I have integrated PayPal in my forms. After making payment, PayPal´s website does not automatically redirects to the "thank you page" I set up on Jotform (people must click on the link "return to the seller´s page").

What I want is that PayPal page redirects automatically to the thank you page I have set up in Jotform or to another page I can set up (where? how?). Can you help with this isuue?

The problem is that many people do not understand or do not want to click the link "return to the seller´s page" so they are not being redirected to the thank you page. I track conversions by mesuring how many poeple visited the thank you page, so I can not track conversions correctly, since not all the people visit the thank you page after making payment.

I have searched on Jotform forum and found 2 solutions to this problems. Tried to implement it but didn´t work:

    1) PayPal Auto return function: doesn´t work. It is not authomatic, still have to click the link "return to the seller´s page". And it does not redirect to the specific URL I have set up on PayPal. It redirects to the "thank you page" I set up in Jotform.

    2) PayPal IPN: I have used the url http://www.jotform.net/ipns/paypal.php and enabled "Receive IPN Message". Does not work. The same problem as with PayPal Auto return function.

The third solution I can think of is to change the integration to Paypal Pro

To be able to receive payments using this option , you will need a PayPal Website Payments Pro account

Once you open it, you should get an API Username, API Password and a Signature that you would have to setup into the PP pro integration.

Give it a try and let us know

    Thanks for your answer.

Question 1: moving to PayPal Pro will fix the problem? how?

Before moving to PayPal Pro, I would like to explore if there is a solution with the current PayPal account I manage. I have talked with PayPal technical support today and they have told me the IPN should work.

So question 2 is: I wrote the IPN URL (http://www.jotform.net/ipns/paypal.php ) on my PayPal profile. This should authomatically redirect buyer´s to the Jotform thank you page I set up after making payment?

Should I expect this work? Is there a time frame to allow this work or it is instantaneous?

Sorry if my questions are too basic, I am not an IT person...

    Thanks for your help.

Question 1: moving to PayPal Pro will fix the problem? how?

With PayPal Pro you can receive credit card payments right from your webpage. These PayPal Pro credit card payments are being collected without redirection to PayPal website.

So question 2 is: I wrote the IPN URL (http://www.jotform.net/ipns/paypal.php ) on my PayPal profile. This should authomatically redirect buyer´s to the Jotform thank you page I set up after making payment?

I do not think so. However, according to this thread, Custom Thank You URL option should work. You can try to create a Custom Thank You page on your website, and then configure your form to use that page.

Please give it a try and let us know if you need any further assistance.

I have custom URL set up on all my forms. But when people buy as guests with their credit card through PayPal (they do not have a PayPal account) they are not being redirected authomatically to the custom URL.

I thought the IPN I set up on PayPal was going to fix that problem. What does IPN is for then?

I have custom URL set up on all my forms. But when people buy as guests with their credit card through PayPal (they do not have a PayPal account) they are not being redirected authomatically to the custom URL.

I would like to recommend you to check that with enabled PayPal Auto Return, and with disabled PayPal Auto Return to see if that makes any difference.

Also, if that does not work for guests only, there might be some problem from PayPal side. You may contact them to get more information on this.

I thought the IPN I set up on PayPal was going to fix that problem. What does IPN is for then?

I am not a JotForm Developer, so I do not have all the details about our PayPal integration, but I know that we use IPN for handling purchase confirmation. Incomplete submissions are going to Pending Submissions, and it works due to IPN service.
