FIle upload / connect to dropbox / box.net / FTP

    I wonder if it is possible to connect to dropbox / box.net / FTP 

    and if after the upload is complete to show a preview of the image file uploaded?

    Thanks for your suggestions. We have implemented Dropbox integration 6 months ago but they did not approve us. They were only allowing mobile apps. We will re-check with them.

    Pls try again! I know that there are some apps that can upload to dropbox (AirDropper) for example, after connecting to your dropbox account the app allows to request via email files to upload to a dropbox folder and the recipient of the request does not need to have a dropbox account.That feature would be awesome as in some cases I cannot leave the files on your server.Also, in the meantime any way to access those already uploaded files via FTP at least to make it faster to download them all?Thanks a lot, Francesco

    Yes, we re-applied and JotForm is now approved. :)

    The dropbox integration should be available next week!

    Great!! Do you know if I'll be able dynamically create folders baed on parameters in the form?

    No, we have not implemented such feature. Can you provide details on exactly how you would want it to work? If we think it might work for all clients we might change it to work that way. 

    The current implementation simply creates a JotForm folder on your dropbox and sends uploaded files there.

    This is great.  I was just thinking about changing my form to a php/wordpress form to integrate dropbox, now I won't have to!

    How does it work .. to save upload files directly on dropbox? How can I integrate it in forms?

    The way I would see it working is something like this - where I can organize the files based on a parameter/field name: $target_path = "dropbox&jotformfolder/" + {ID_submission, ID_user or any other field value in the form}

    This would allow me to look at my dropbox and see if a certain person has uploaded new files and they would all be organized within her/his folder (subfolders) ie files for a certain project.

    It's really important to me that the file names are kept intact when uploading too and being able to organize them reduces by a lot the chances of files overriding each other or being renamed automatically.

    We haven't launched this yet, so you cannot use it. I will make a post here when it become live. 

    Under your dropbox, you will see a "JotForm" folder and under that you will see folders for each form that has uploaded files. Under that you will have folders for each submission. The name of the folder can be selected from the form fields. Under that you will have files with no major changes on the name. (alphanumeric characters replaced with underscrore) So, for example if you have "Submit Your Resume" form, this will what it will look like:

    JotForm/Submit Your Resume/John Doe/my_resume.doc

    You can find dropbox integration option on Submissions page. Click "Display Options" button and Select Dropbox integration. It will only appear on upload forms.

    This is still under development if you experiance some problems please let us know. Thanks

    Thanks for the info. I made some tests and so far it seems to work well. Will do some further test and let you know if i face some issues. One more question. Does the upload restriction still apply or will it continue to work uploading if the limit is reached? I mean it sends it now straight to the dropbox correct?

    Currently it just sends a copy of your upload to dropbox. So upload limits will still effect your quota.

    There was a bug with the Dropbox integration. Some files arrived empty. (0 Byte)

    It is fixed now. Sorry about that.

    I have a few questions about how this works.

    1) What happens when a user makes a submission that exceeds your JotForm submissions quota? Does the file still get uploaded to my dropbox account? If not, will I have to manually clear out my jotform submissions?

    2) Can I move the JotForm folder to a different location in my dropbox account? I'd rather not have it in the root directory.

    3) Can I have JotForm submissions get put in a new folder with a different name? For example, if a user uploaded a file can I have that file go into the 'JotForm/Send a File/yyyy-mm-dd/' folder?

    Ah, I see from a previous post that the JotForm quota will keep the file from being copied to Dropbox if your JotForm quota is full (if I understand it correctly).

    so edited 1) Would there happen to be a way to auto-delete files/submissions from JotForm?

    Basically if I have to monitor my JotForm account to keep a dropbox-integrated JotForm working, then that's no good.

    Hi mmseng,

    Unfortunately as of the moment there is no option to auto-delete files or
    submissions from JotForm.  You will have to login and delete the
    files/submission to free up the quota.

    I have added the auto-delete submission on our feature request list.

    I think one short term solution for establishing some sort of hierarchical directory system would be to include an entry box for what you want the directory to be called.

    That way if a teacher asks their student to submit the form via the Dropbox method they could specify their name and then a directory would be created as their name.

    This would be an enormous advantage for a lot of teachers/SMBs/etc...

    @Alex

    I am not sure if your post is a feature request or a workaround that you want to suggest to other users, but I am leaning towards the latter.

    Anyway, there is a way to have a text box input be assigned as the Dropbox folder name for a submission entry. It can be found in the submisisons page > settings  > Manage Dropbox integration

     

    This will send the specific submission into its own folder named after the student's full name. Hope this helps.
