What is a "new" submission for the main screen and for digest email?

I am not clear on what constitutes a "new" submission. Is it a specific number of days for the lookback? These are submissions that have not been edited, which I understand would could even make an old submission "new" again.

and is the above display using different info than for the digest email (look at the payment and registration form numbers above and below)?

Thank you for reaching out to Jotform Support. The new submissions shown in your screenshot are the submissions you received after you created the Digest Email report. The total number of submissions is the same as in the first screenshot. If you refer to the number highlighted in red, those are your unread submissions.
