Hello, I'd want to discuss with you how to use Jotform to automatically read the value of an excel file and add it to the correct Jotform field. Please contact me. Thank you.

    Hi Criteo,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. It's very easy to automatically fill out form fields from an Excel file, using our Spreadsheet to Form widget. Let me show you how to do it.

A first, in your Excel file, you need to set to name the columns exactly as your fields names, as for instance the following.

In the table above, we'll consider the first column, named Unique Code, to be the key field to be filled by the form filler to automatically fill the other fields, as soon as its value matches.

Once your Excel file and your form are designed, add and set the Spreadsheet to Form widget, with the following steps.

    1. In Form Builder, go to the Build Page.
    2. On the left panel, go to the Widgets tab, add the Spreadsheet to form widget, and give it the same name as the key column of your Excel spreadsheet.Excel cell value to Jotform field Image 2 Screenshot 71
    3. Select the widget and click on the wander icon.
    4. In the right panel, upload your Excel file.Excel cell value to Jotform field Image 3 Screenshot 82
    5. And at Access Code Column section, select the key column, hereby the Unique Code column, and you're done.Excel cell value to Jotform field Image 4 Screenshot 93

As a result, we get the following:

Hello, thanks for the information, very helpful. I see that it requires a  XLS or XLSX file.

What if we do it the other way around, from jotform to a spreadsheet. In this case could we use a excel link or does it also requires a XLS or XLSX file?

    Hi Criteo,

Thanks for getting back to us. Yes indeed, the Spreadsheet to form widget requires a XLS or XLSX file. About the other way, I guess that you want to use a URL to some Excel file hosted by a website or a platform such as office.com or microsoftonline.com. If this is the case, this feature is not yet available. If you confirm that you'd like it, I can create a feature request for our developers.

If you want the opposite way, to export forms submissions to a spreadsheet, you might want to check out our GoogleSheets integration or Microsoft Excel integration, the last being based on Zapier.

Let us know if there’s anything else we can help you with.
